Gameboy Advance System Versus The Gameboy Advance SP

Judy Ramsook
A couple of months after purchasing the Nintendo gameboy advance portable video game system, came the Gameboy Advance SP with its innovative features such as a backlit screen which allows players to be able to play games in the dark, no fancy attachments needed.

And although it looks small enough to fit into one?s pocket when closed and comes in a variety of colours from which to choose, I still found myself preferring the original gameboy advance system.

It is not small enough to fit in one?s pocket, and has no backlit screen, but if you have played those running and jumping games on the first gameboy advance and then tried to play the same type of game on the new SP, you might notice a few things.

First the player has to get used to the buttons he or she uses to perform the running and jumping actions on a particular game and also be able to maneuver the top left or right buttons, which might seem a bit clumsy at first, especially if you?re playing the Super Mario Advance game on it. Whereas, with the original gameboy advance system, things are a bit different.

If, for example, a player has played games on the Super Nintendo and became accustomed to the comfortable feel of that system?s controller, that?s what it feels like.

And the better the player feels about maneuvering that, like I did, the better feel he or she will have for the system and the game he or she is playing. And the top left and right buttons are there too, just like they are on the Super Nintendo system?s controller, which one would have already grown used to had he or she played games on the Super Nintendo system before.

Although both original gameboy advance and the gameboy SP play the same sort of games, with backward compatibility; regular gameboy games can be played on both systems, it just depends on what one is used to or likes.

If one wants to play games in the dark without all the attachments he or she would need for extra lighting, and he or she has grown used to the Gameboy Advance SP, then that's fine.

Had I not played the original gameboy advance system and had only been playing the Gameboy Advance SP, I would have grown accustomed to the gameboy advance SP just the same as anyone who had not played the original gameboy advance system first.
