Three Ideas That Could Change The World!
What if Global warming isn't the fault of Yuppies with Hummers or even factories belching out smoke. What if this is a cycle which happens every so many thousand years and this cycle happens, not just to Earth, but to the entire solar system and possibly even beyond. If this might possibly be the case, then don't you think that this is not the time to politicize the situation and point fingers? Perhaps this is finally a time for all the inhabitants of earth to come together as never before and look for real solutions? And cutting down on commute drive time or reducing the size of your automobile's engine isn't going to do it. Folks, we are about to encounter an ecological tsunami and ready or not, it will soon be our reality. And one thing we can say for sure is that it will effect everyone on the planet. Can we stop it? No. But we can do what we do best. We can adapt.
Now here are three really productive ideas that might be examined and, if implemented, just might change the face of the world.
First on my list would be solar cooking. I have a solar cooker and it works like a charm. Essentially any time of the year I can see the Sun I can cook and I can cook anything from rice to a roast. And nothing ever gets burned and there is no danger from fire. There are many places on this earth where people see the Sun each and every day and yet the majority of their time is spent looking for fuel, for things to "BURN", in order to cook food, in order to eat, in order to survive. This effort is unnecessary.
Second is water. The need for abundant, clean, drinkable water is probably our number one need. There is no reason that Big Business cannot get involved immediately in massive water desalinization projects. It is a crime, that on a planet covered with water, the lack of fresh water threatens the lives of millions of people on a daily basis. If Saudi Arabia, Israel and the U.S. Navy can turn sea water into fresh clean water, then it should be good enough for all citizens of planet earth. And with immediate research and investment, I suspect that the price could be brought down to a manageable level in a very short time. Today you can walk down to your nearest Marine Supply store and pick up a hand desalinator for the price of a good cell phone and it requires no power, no batteries and will turn sea water into drinking water with just the squeeze of your hand.
And here is a third idea that would change the world. Underground housing. Why do people all over the world, from Beverly Hills to the deepest Amazon jungle still build, what are essentially, square huts made out of sticks on the surface of the land? Tradition? Habit? Quite probably. But the problem with a stick house on the surface is that you have to heat it in the Winter and cool it in the Summer. You are vulnerable to all sorts of weather from tornadoes to torrid sun to freezing rain. You are at risk of lightning as well as fire. But the time, and the necessary equipment are at hand to begin to efficiently build our residences either partially or completely underground. Think of it. No threat from weather, tornadoes, heat or cold. If you put a house under three feet of earth (plant the top with a vegetable garden or flowers!) you essentially do away with any need for air conditioning, you do away with the problem of heating in the winter. 18" is the average freeze layer in the colder parts of the United States. Beneath this level, temperatures begin to stabilize to an amazing degree. A couple of solar panels on the surface will easily generate enough energy to raise the temperature a few degrees in the Winter and there is will be no need for air conditioning in the summer. Skylights could be fabricated from transparent solar panels and provide light as well as power.
Three ideas that could save the lives of millions of people and make the plight of millions more, much easier. Why aren't these ideas even being discussed?
