Gov. Spitzer, NY Driver’s Licenses for illegal aliens are now needed more than ever

Governor Spitzer bypassed the Legislature and issued an Executive Order forcing the Motor Vehicle Dept to give driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. Previously he had issued an Executive Order ordering the MVD to remove the word “temporary” from the driver’s license of foreign visitors. Removing the word “temporary” makes it extremely easy for illegal aliens and other “foreign visitors” to register to vote – ILLEGALLY. In a Motor Voter Act state, like New York, one can registers to vote by simply checking off a little box in the driver’s license application, something that our former Attorney General and now Governor is astutely aware of.
Let’s be clear about one thing. No immigrant who passes the written and driving test for a driver’s license before or since Eliot Spizer became Governor has been denied a driver’s license in New York or any state in the union – nor will they ever.
The furor is over foreigners who are in the country illegally. These are aliens that have violated our borders or overstayed their visas. These illegals cannot legally obtain a social security number; they must buy a fake one or steal one. According to the Justice Department there are 11 million cases of stolen identities annually. Document fraud and theft are felonies. If you have ever had your identity stolen you know how painful and costly that is – and how common. Not all illegal aliens steal identities, some work for unethical employers and neither they nor the employer report the income. The Labor Department reports that 40 percent of illegal aliens commit tax fraud. Tax fraud is a felony.
Among the hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens roaming New York streets there are many thousands that are wanted criminals in their home countries. The janitor in your child’s school could be one of them. There are over 600,000 fugitive felons on the loose as we speak.
It may be worth repeating, because the New York Times does not have the integrity to say it: By definition IMMIGRANTS are legally in the United States and will never have a problem obtaining a NY driver’s license. Immigrants have nothing to fear. It is ONLY illegal aliens that have a problem with their identities and these are the people that Governor Spitzer wants to help get NY driver’s license – the illegal aliens.
The Governor is determined to shrug off massive opposition from the state residents and even his own Party. But that is not all - about a dozen county clerks have said they would refuse to go along with the plan, and several of them, including one Democrat, appeared at Monday’s hearing of the Legislature to protest the measure. The clerks’ offices in many upstate counties double as D.M.V. branches, and the governor has threatened to take legal action against them if they do not carry out his policies. Republican legislators threaten, for their part, that they will cut off funding to the MVD if they start issuing driver’s licenses to people who are in the country illegally. The MVD Commissioner, David J. Swarts, is singing the praises of his boss, the Governor. When grilled by the Legislators, Swarts told them with a straight face that MVD clerks will be able to judge the validity of passports offered for identification from all countries of the world. Swarts was not convincing at the hearing.
The timing for handing out valid state ID’s to illegal aliens could not be timelier. Forty-one criminals were arrested in New York City on charges they sold fake social security cards, driver’s licenses and other documents often used in identity-theft scams. Some of those arrested are gang members, police said. The overwhelming majority of them are suspected illegal aliens. And yes, the criminal cartels marketing ID’s were doing jobs that most Americans refuse to do – the whole sale enterprise in false and stolen ID’s. With up to 30 million illegal aliens in the country, making up 5% of all workers, there is a huge market for ID’s.
The joint Federal Secret Service and NYDP sting will temporary put a stop to the trade in stolen and fake document along Roosevelt Avenue, but there will be plenty of other locations where to get them. The District Attorney from the Queens District, Richard Brown put on display hundreds of high quality fake documents none of which surpassed the authenticity or the caché of a genuine New York State driver’s license.
The Mexican Matricula Consular, the ID that the banking and financial lobbyist shoehorned as a legal form of identification in many states can be had for about $40 from New York’s fake and stolen ID vendors. All major banks will give illegals a bank account, a credit card or loan on presentation of a $40 Matricula Consular. Do you feel more secure knowing that many states consider the Mexican Matricula Consular ID cards valid identification when banks in Mexico refuse to recognize them? By the way, have you considered what will happen to the unpaid balances on all those credit cards and loans if there is passage of a law that causes an immediate stampede of illegal aliens out of the country? When that happens, we will see massive credit card defaults that will make the sub-prime debacle seem palatable!
Many people think about the World Trade Towers and wonder what could Gov. Spitzer be thinking? Did you know that between September 11, 2001 and September 11, 2005 91,000 persons from countries that harbor terrorism have been apprehended at our border with Mexico (According to Michael Chertoff, the Secretary of Homeland Security). It is estimated that for each one caught 4 or 5 are never spotted crossing). How many of these potential terrorist are among the half million to one million illegal aliens that Gov. Spitzer wants to give NY driver’s licenses to?
With the closing of the stolen and fake ID market on Roosevelt Avenue, it is very sweet of Governor Spitzer to by-pass the Legislature and public debate and through an imperious Executive Order give illegal aliens and potential terrorist a NY driver’s license so they can go places and do the things that illegal aliens and terrorists do.
Governor Eliot Spitzer is up for re-election in 2010. With his defeat in 2010, unless he resigns before that, we will also up-root MVD Commissioner Swarts from his job as smooth talking appointee for the Governor’s unpopular policies.
