Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer?

Judy Ramsook
This is the time of year when a wide variety of Christmas music is receiving much airplay. And if one listens closely enough, he can hear that one song which may seem a bit questionable, since we live in such a politically correct age.

The song? Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer. And the longer and more attentively one listens to the lyrics, the more evident it seems that an act of violence has been committed by a reindeer of all things. An act committed as ‘Grandma’ was, as the song states, ‘walking home from our house Christmas Eve…’

And isn’t a reindeer supposed to be a bit tame, considering all the toned down literature and innuendos made with such a creature in mind over the years? And one of Santa's helpers at that?

Certainly the song sounds humouros enough, but if one stops and thinks about it what if that sort of thing were to really take place.

Would such a song seem so funny then, probably not. But just to be on the safe side, even though it’s highly unlikely that such an event should actually take place, do not be embarrassed to ask your grandparent if he or she has his or her medication with them as you all gather around on Christmas day for that family gathering.

A gathering some members of the family may have been looking forward to all year, for it’s that one time when one might get an opportunity to see a cousin or uncle he has not had the good fortune to see in quite a while.

It’s one day, one time one occasion out of the entire year. And if one is fortunate enough to still have his grandparents around and in the flesh, be happy for that too.

For the elderly are an important part of society and one’s life. They are one’s link to his past. So celebrate well and look after each other, lest a stray reindeer should wander away from Santa and his sleigh.
