Music has been an integral part of us since day one—whether it’s the playful sound from nature or the rocking alternative tunes from today’s bands. Whatever the case, one thing is for sure. With the proliferating number of mp3 Web sites out there, we won’t be running out of music sources anytime soon. Just type mp3 on any search engine and you’ll find yourself bombarded with hundreds of hits. And a lot of them claim to be the “best place” to download mp3’s. However, you should also be careful before engaging in a clicking frenzy. Some of these so-called “best places” for mp3 downloads are actually breeding grounds for viruses. Caught unaware, you’ll find yourself facing a serious hard drive dilemma.
When I first started out, I downloaded my mp3’s from this site called www.mp3musiq.com. Although I could download the mp3’s for free, the choices were a little limited. But for a download fledgling, it was enough. These days, I find myself downloading mp3’s (among other files) from Limewire and iTunes.

Of course, there is iTunes but another path has just opened for Apple loyalists. eMusic, “the world’s largest retailer of independent music,” works well with iPods and just about any mp3 player ever created. You can also avail of its free trial, however, you are only limited to 25 songs. After the free trial, you can continue membership and download songs for 33 cents each. For something that is in tune with your iPod and MAC, it seems worth it.
While some of you might squint your eyes or scrunch your noses at the idea of having to pay for something you could get for free. Think again. The abovementioned Web sites are reputable online institutions that guarantee stress –free downloading. But if you would rather take your chances at www.unlimitedmp3music.com or www.myfreemusics.com, then that’s your decision. I, however, have learned that one free song is not worth one expensive trip to the computer shop.
