The bowl pairings have been announced, which means that we are just a few days away from the announcement of the 71st Annual Heisman Memorial Trophy Presentation, which will take place on December 10th, on ESPN at 8 p.m. EST, with the announcement of the winner to occur at approximately 8:50 p.m. EST.

Since 1936, the Heisman Trophy has been awarded to the collegiate player who best exemplifies the philosophies set-fourth by John Heisman. “John Heisman was a man of the team. He really considered football a team sport,” said Tim Henning, Associate Coordinating Director for the Heisman Memorial Trophy. This year, the winner will be no different. “Those four, just like a lot of other players have each shown something special and had great seasons on the gridiron,” said Henning when asked how each of the “big four,” (Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart, Vince Young, and Brady Quinn) has exemplified the John Heisman philosophies.

The last five Heisman recipients have all been Quarterbacks, from 2000 with Chris Weinke (FSU) and then last season with Matt Leinart (USC) becoming the 70th recipient. Even though Matt Leinart this season has really been an anchor for USC, keep in mind that the only time someone won the trophy back-to-back was Archie Griffin of Ohio State in 1974 and 1975. “It’s no harder to win a 2nd one, I believe it comes down to our voters, and they vote on who they truly believe is the most deserving,” said Henning.

With everything taken into account and putting Reggie Bush aside from the other members of this season's big four, here is how Quinn, Young and Leinart match-up. You can make your own decision, but Brady Quinn leads Young and Leinart in most of the categories, plus he didn’t have the fire power that Leinart and Young had.

Read the following statistics like this: Quinn / Young / Leinart

QB Efficiency: 162.91 / 168.56 / 158.29

Att-Cmp-Int: 405-263-7 / 285-182-10 / 391-254-7

Completion Pct: 64.9 / 63.9 / 65.0

TD: 32 / 26 / 27

YDS: 3,633 / 2,769 / 3,450

Avg/Game: 330.3 / 230.8 / 287.5

If Quinn can pull off an upset on December 10th, he would be the 1st player from Notre Dame to win the Heisman since Tim Brown took it home in 1987.

SIDE NOTE

1935 the Heisman was called the DCA Award, which was renamed Heisman Trophy after the passing of John Heisman in 1936.
