Hillary Clinton’s On The Fence Dividing Voters

Ken Hughes
Hillary Clinton wrote an extensive e-mail defining her position on the war and other issues or did she? Her e-mail puts her squarely in the middle of supporting the war and pulling out. On the one hand she takes credit for her vote to go to war on the other hand she’s apposed to the war. Can she have it both ways? Senator Clinton has a problem, her life long ambition has been to be the first woman president of the United States. She grew up in an upper middle class neighborhood in a Chicago suburb of primarily Republicans. Her conversion to Socialism came when she started hanging out with Bill Clinton. Hillary assumed since the country was drifting left and she could do pretty much as she wanted to politically. By the time, her turn came to run for president her socialist platform would be a cinch for the nomination. Things and times change, her free ride now has a price on it.

In order for Hillary to stand any chance of being elected president she must not only retain the hard left, she must also attract voters from the center. It isn’t that Hillary can’t become a centrist, that’s a given. It’s more that her base of the hard left won’t let her. They’ll insist she stay a Socialist. Not only that Hillary’s crown of gold is beginning to tarnish as more of the Democratic Party hopefuls begin to express their interest in the nomination as a candidate.

There are a number of strong Republican candidates considering running for her Senate seat. If they make a strong bid that could take some the steam out of her candidacy for president. What Democrats considered a no-brainer for the 2008 election has become a real brainteaser? What once seemed a lock for Hillary has become an open door for several others looking for their 15 minutes of fame, most know they don’t stand a chance of becoming the nominee. That doesn’t keep them from muddying Hillary’s chances. When has failure ever stopped politicians from making fools out of themselves?

A lot’s changed since Bill and Hillary came to Washington to be the President[s] of the United States. Convincing Al Gore he wasn’t the real Vice President was a problem for Hillary. Much of the Clintons economic boom turned out to be an economic bust. Clinton’s mythical surpluses turned out to be manipulated accounting practices. Bill Clinton’s libido overruling his judgment became a problem for Hillary. She spent the better part of eight years trying to convince the public her husband wasn’t the sex maniac he obviously was. Two wars a Clinton rescission and a Bush economic boom have changed the dynamics Hillary spent a lifetime developing, now she must start all over as a competitor.

Hillary Clinton’s been a very competent member of the U S Senate She’s hasn’t been pushy, and she’s not a wallflower. To her credit, she was one of the first Congresspersons to visit the troops in Afghanistan. She went and came with little funfair.

Until her e-mail yesterday, she was a supporter of the president’s policy for handling the war on terror. That’s understandable, she must satisfy her base, the far left. It movers her off center and that can be her biggest worry.

Of all the Democratic candidates Hillary’s probably the most qualifies, intellectually and in temperament. Hillary Clinton is a pragmatist. She has the ability to adjust to the needs and views of the moment. If it became necessary for her to become a Republican again to be elected President, she’d do it in the wink of an eye. Hillary’s political loyalties end at the tips of her shoes.

If this sounds like I’m endorsing Hillary for president, I’m not. I simply recognize her talents and her ambitions. Hillary will turn in any direction for political advantage. Her sole loyalty is to Hillary.

With a Republican super majority in congress, she could make a fair president.
