Al Sharpton to Star in CBS Pilot, 'Al in the Family'

Boy preacher, activist, mayoral candidate, presidential candidate, electrifying speaker, tour manager for James Brown, buffoon with a bouffant hairdo, pitchman for a car title loan company -- Al Sharpton has played many roles in his remarkable life.

Now get ready for Al Sharpton the sitcom star, the rotund publicity hound says he is working with CBS on a pilot, tentatively titled, "Al in the Family."

One episode will have one of his TV children becoming a Republican, it would be even more remarkable if one of his TV children was a decent kid who shunned publicity and never donned tacky running suits.

There is no truth that Al Gore will have a small recurring role as a robot programmed to bring Sharpton a tray piled high with junk food every few minutes.

I'm not a TV critic, but I think it's safe to say that "Al in the Family" won't be compared favorably to Norman Lear's seminal hit "All in the Family."

In an interview with the "New York Daily News" Sharpton said, "It's about conflicting social and political views...There'll also be a social message."

With the Rev. Sharpton's involvement, I'm sure there will also be sophomoric humor and risque dialogue.

Al Sharpton is a joke and a stint as a sitcom star is a perfect fit for him, I just hope he doesn't expect to be taken seriously when he runs again for president.
