War, What Is It Really Good For?

Judy Ramsook
Countries to go war with each other for various reasons, or if it’s a civil war or some type of revolution, groups of rebels are so frustrated with a certain situation within their own country, that striking out verbally or waging a peaceful protest are a couple of ways of expressing their displeasure at what they find upsetting. But when one stops and thinks about it, what is war really good for?

For example, the country in which the war is taking place is being torn apart and before the war is all over, it could be all destroyed by machines, acts of warfare, that include such things as weapon to weapon combat, and incindiary devices that are used to quell a resilient rebellious group, and while all of that is taking place, what is happening to that country’s young ones, innocent and women?

They are being exposed to a world of disruption. A disruption into their world that was at one time considered to be some what calm, or at least much calmer before such acts of war began.

And as these innocents go about their daily lives are some of them wondering will there come a time when they will wake up to a sunrise with no visible signs of war, or hearing any sounds of weapon fire in the distance.

And while they constantly have to be on the look out for the unexpected, are the soldiers who are away from their own home and fighting in that other land, wondering when this war will be over? For this thing about war is affecting all those involved.

It’s disrupting the lives and routines of the innocent and also that of the soldiers involved in fighting. As some of those soldiers ponder such things as when will they see their own families again and if and when they return home, will their lives be drastically changed even though they are aware of the purpose of their participation in the war. For war changes people.

The soldier, for example is left with images he or she might not soon forget, images of the hurt, and damage brought about by fighting for the freedom of another country and the children and women of the country in which the war is being fought have to hope for the best. For they and the other innocents are the ones who will become partly involved in the restructuring and reforming of their country once the war is over. It's their country.

Wars occur for a reason, sometimes they help bring down a sinister dictator and ultimately bring things of a non disruptive and violent nature (peace) to that land, but it’s those images some of those soldiers and innocents are left with that may make some wonder, war, what is it really good for?
