Taking The Time To Give

Judy Ramsook
With the holiday season not too far away, many people are already purchasing those special gifts for their loved ones. Or they are at least thinking of what to get for that special some one in his or her life.

But what happens when, instead of taking the time to purchase a gift for some one, one decides it is much easier to stuff some cash in an envelope and give it as a gift?

Some people may not have a problem with this, but is the giving of this monetary gift seen as something else? Like maybe, the giver did not have or make the time to go out and purchase something he or she thinks the recepient of this gift will like.

For in order to do that the giver would have to spend a few moments thinking not only about the receiver of the prospective gift, but also of something else.

That receiver’s likes and dislikes. And in order to accomplish that, one would have to know a little bit about that individual.

Of course there are generic gifts such as candles, for example, who in today’s world would not accept a candle as a present?

But say, one is thinking of getting something like say a music cd, movie dvd, or even a book as a gift, that will require the giver to at least know what type of music, movies or books one prefers.

And to do that, one would also have to know something about that individual’s personal tastes, likes, dislikes, whether he or she prefers fiction to non fiction and what genre and so on, be it adventure, mystery, horror, self help books or the do it yourself variety.

It may sound like a bit of a strain, but it might not have to be. Just do not find yourself trying to purchase such a present on Christmas Eve, instead give yourself some time.

And when the recepient of this gift sees that you actually took the time to look for and purchase something for him or her, he or she will feel all the more appreciated and pleased.

Pleased to know that some one cares enough to take the time to spend on that person, as opposed to handing out a ten or twenty dollar bill that may seem cold and meaningless at a time of the year when joy and togetherness are themes of the season.
