Mom Makes Teen Daughter Stand On Street Corner As Punishment

Robert Paul Reyes
You live in a middle class neighborhood, your child attends one of the top high schools in the state, she's a bright girl who's received high marks in the past, but now her grades are failing and her behavior is deteriorating.

What's a mother to do? You can't blame her mediocre grades on a bad environment or a lack of intelligence.

The average suburban mom would hire a tutor or have her daughter examined by a psychologist.

Tasha Henderson is not the average mom, she made Coretha stand at a busy Oklahoma City intersection with a cardboard sign that read:

"I don't do my homework and I act up in school, so my parents are preparing me for my future.

Will work for food."

"This may not work. I'm not a professional," said Henderson, a 34-year-old mother of three. "But I felt I owed it to my child to at least try."

"This may not work", no sh**! An intelligent child whose grades suddenly deteriorate, is crying out for attention, but not attention from laughing or bemused strangers.

I commend Ms. Henderson for caring about her daughter, many parents are too busy with their careers to care or even notice if their children are not doing well in school.

But you don't punish a child by publicly humiliating her, couldn't she have taken away Coretha's cell phone or computer until her grades improved?

Tasha Henderson said her daughter's attendance has been perfect and her behavior has been better since the incident.

Yeah, but what about Coretha's fragile psyche, I hope she hasn't done irreparable harm to her daughter.
