Who Should Have Their Security Clearances Revoked?
This continues even though there is no evidence Rove leaked the name of the CIA worker Valerie Plame, a case that was investigated by a special prosecutor for over two years and ended up with one indictment that resulted from the grand jury process but not from the actual alleged crime.
How easy it is for the Democrats to demand revocation of security clearances especially when it's not their own.
Now, I've put together my own list of people who should have their security clearances revoked -- people whose actions border on giving aid and comfort to the enemy and who have access to the most secret of classified material regarding national and homeland security.
At the top of my list is Senator Jay Rockefeller. Here's what he told host Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday:
WALLACE: Now, the President never said that Saddam Hussein was an imminent threat. As you saw, you did say that. If anyone hyped the intelligence, isn't it Jay Rockefeller?
SEN. ROCKEFELLER: No. The -- I mean, this question is asked a thousand times and I'll be happy to answer it a thousand times. I took a trip by myself in January of 2002 to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria, and I told each of the heads of state that it was my view that George Bush had already made up his mind to go to war against Iraq -- that that was a predetermined set course which had taken shape shortly after 9/11.
So here we have a Senator who has access to classified information as a result of his position on the Senate Intelligence Committee shooting his mouth off in the Middle East and ratting out his own government. And he believes being a rat is honorable. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Syria was and continues to be listed as a state that sponsors terrorism. It is also the country to which many believe Saddam moved his WMD. Syria, along with Iran, is providing manpower and resources to our enemies in Iraq. Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, is the major exporter of the radical brand of Islam known as Wahhabism.
The 19 attackers on September 11, 2001 where from Saudi Arabia as is Osama Bin Laden. And yet, four months after the terrorist attacks in the US, by his own admission, Senator Rockefeller was snitching out his own country to the Saudi royal family, some of whom are believed to finance terrorism.
The man should be the focus of an investigation to determine exactly what, if any, classified information he divulged to leaders in Syria and Saudi Arabia. His security clearance should be revoked if it's discovered he acted improperly or worse -- he committed a crime. Were his meetings leaked to Saddam Hussein? Did Saddam use the Rockefeller information to move his WMD arsenal out of Iraq?
Senator Patrick Leahy, another Democrat, is known within the Washington Beltway as "Leaky Leahy." He's never been outed by the news media because he's too valuable to them as a snitch. Here's how Leahy operates: He leaks classified information to a reporter or reporters; then he stands on the floor of the Senate and points to the news article to advance his argument. It's time for an investigation of Senator Patrick Leahy. He's used his access to secret files for his own political ambitions for far too long.
Senator Harry Reid, although not a member the intelligence committee, during his opposition to a Bush judicial nominee divulged information contained in a classified FBI file about that nominee. He didn't give specifics, but this snitch let Americans know that an unsubstantiated raw report, with unsworn statements, cast suspicions on the nominee. This is a no-no. Now I'm not certain what type of security clearance Reid holds, but his actions in this case deserve closer scrutiny.
Then there's the big leak to the Washington Post's Dana Priest regarding secret CIA prisons. There is no proof as to whom leaked this information, but there is speculation it was by a Senator who disagreed with US policy regarding detention and interrogation of captured terrorists and enemy combatants. This must be investigated -- and security clearances revoked.
This isn't some political game we're playing here. This is a war, like it or not. And for these rats to use their access to secret information in order to gain political points is unconscionable. And then with a straight face they tell the American people that they are deeply concerned about national security leaks. Believe or disbelieve President Bush all you wish, these senators are not honorable men.
