Love for Astronaut Lisa Nowak tougher than rocket science
Lisa, a hero Astronaut, works on the mission that involves ongoing projects on the space station, a platform for studies of the space frontiers. No doubt, her great qualifications in rocket science proved her excellent credentials into joining the elite group of Astronauts with the prestigious NASA organization.
Rocket science has become a popular coinage in the mainstream lingo to denote tough, hard and convoluted, numbers-ridden field of endeavor, and are stuff of the Astronauts. For the lady Astronaut, who is mentally endowed to understand the complicated mathematics of robotics, her specialty, as an Astronaut, rocket science is a breeze. In college she graduated in Aerospace engineering, then, received a Master’s in Science in Aeronautical and Astronautical engineering. She had accumulated 1500 hours in testing 30 different aircrafts with the Navy, and earned the title Captain.
How cool of a record was that for a woman? I’d say, more than impressive. She was no doubt on her way into the stellar, professionally and otherwise. After all, success begets happiness is the common run. But there is such as thing as fluke of life. We see this phenomenon emerge like a monster from a placid ocean, and sending ripples of awe, shock, and grief all around us.
In such manner, Lisa, the girlish-looking mother of three, made a sequel appearance into the media swirl dumbfounding the world. The grit of the story is out there in public. Her 19-years marriage ended in estrangement in Jan. 2007, apparently, a relationship that had a meltdown from convolutions of factors. According to reports, Lisa had an affair with Bill Oefelin, another Astronaut, for two or three years. One can only surmise that the affair must have been a cause, if not the principal cause of the break up between Lisa and the husband. Oefelein was reportedly into the relationship while being married, but later divorced. Lisa was being blamed for the divorce.
More and more, noticeably, love relationships are like groceries, it has a shelf life of only two years, for the most part, and smaller number yet makes it to the eternity mark. For any detailed reasons that the romantic relationship had lost its fervor, Oefelin, according to reports was gradually drifting away, emotionally, from Lisa, while he pursued on another woman, Ms. Shipman. It was said that the relationship blossomed after the skeptic, Ms. Shipman, was assured that Oefelin had broken up with Lisa. But to Lisa, in her own admission, in a letter she wrote, therein, was her confession of her deep love for Oefelein. In Lisa’s mind Ms. Shipman is a competitor.
The subsequent action Lisa took proved the fact. A jealousy journey took her to drive near 1000 miles, dramatized by the infamous diaper, to intercept the enplaned Shipman at the airport in Florida.
From there, intervening scenes have glared the newspaper pages. Details that have begun to surface depicted a woman terribly broken emotionally; crying, as she sought for the attention from the terrified Ms. Shipman. As has been described, it was a carefully planned trip that included the paraphernalia’s suspected for use to commit a crime of kidnapping and murder? If Lisa had such a plan, she was jealously deranged tossing consequences away at stake, totally oblivious of the ubiquitous cameras, and the guards, and witnesses. The emotional maelstrom gripping her that moment was stronger than the rocket launchers defying gravity, she knows much about.
Such display of emotion is natural and realistic, however, frowned upon socially as immature and abnormal, especially, among intelligent being in the level of Lisa. But it is a judgment call to refrain and replace with understanding and compassion, after witnessing snippets of her shots from inside the Police station. She was shown pacing back and forth inside the small jail cell, a picture of unease, anxiety, confusion, despair, while she leaned on the wall clearly distraught. How pitiable to see her, a hero in stature, and a mother of young children, befallen, a spurned victim in the perfidious game of love? How cruel and wicked heart of someone to have subjected her into such a state of despondency, while he gaily immersed in passion with another woman. Only another cruel mind would not fall into a compassion for her. Though, I’ve heard a media woman so callously remarked that Lisa shouldn’t have behaved so egregiously. Such arrogant countenance is what drives few of the emotional weaklings into a ditch of disillusion, we see more and more manifesting as a result of love turning into a sport of conquest and ruin.
Lisa, according to a fellow Astronaut, during the initial visit made shortly after her capture, was 15 pounds lighter, and her mug shot was a tell tale of the miseries she’s suffered from the torments of a lost love, jealousy, and anger.
I had wished that the rift might have been solved by proper and timely communication. Analytically, it was very feasible had fear and distrust did not alert Ms. Shipman after having identified Lisa as the stalker. Thus, a hard-earned, brilliant career might not have been jeopardized, as it now appears for Lisa. What a terrible productive, terrific mind endeavoring to help humanity that had to go to waste.
While Lisa maybe alone in this battle precipitated by immorality, in the military, she might be joined in by Mr. Oefelein to face a court martial for violation of the Officer and the Gentleman propriety conduct.
While love is an essential element to our wellbeing, it is also a poison to the weak, vulnerable, and over zealous hearts. Time and again, we fail in the name of love, and someone somehow falls into the crack. As anything else in this life, our saving grace is compassion, understanding, and utilization of our only medium of understanding the suffusing, yet underutilized communication.
