As of Press Time: Mudbugs hold a record of (5-2) and 1 Shootout loss.

The CHL season is now in full swing as teams are providing the high-paced fast action around the country. We will be covering the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs all season long as they attempt to make another run into the playoffs and capture what alluded them last season. One thing the Mudbugs have in their favor is a good premise, “We don’t want a 50 goal scorer we want 10 forwards that can score 20 goals each, ” said Owner John Madden.

One thing that is kind of a norm in the Minor League Systems is that owners and management don’t really have control over who goes to the pro level, “We have zero input when it comes to the Sabers calling someone up. I am not sure if anyone will ever get called up but we would never, never hold anyone back,” Madden.

The 2006 season also marks a special time as we reported in the previous article when it comes to the "BCD Trio," made-up of Brett Smith, Chris Brassard and Dan Wildfong, and Smith as well as the other two members of the "BCD Trio," will be key anchors, "Smitty brings a lot to the table. Although small in stature he has a huge heart. I saw Smitty, last year in Witchita, in unbearable pain after having played through overtime. He just never quits. His body was in convulsions from overexertion and dehydration. Smitty, in my opinion, will have to answer the call. He gives 100 percent and Muscutt expects that every shift. I have no doubt that he will add to our continued success. Smitty is well on his way to being a standout." said Madden.

Fans of this team have undoubtedly already seen the power that the forwards poses, and it will be big. One thing that needs to happen is they must control penalties "sin bin," With the new rule changes this season, Dan will have to change his playing, style so as not to put us in short hand situations. Brass is as solid they come. Smitty can play with any line. I expect big things from this line all year.

On the flip side, each of the big forwards will combine to bring certain strengths, “Fonger is a natural leader. He knows what Muscutt wants and gives 100 percent all night every night. He will put the puck in the net consistently. Brass’s puck handling ability and smoothness will get the puck down th ice and he is skillful at putting the puck in the net from anywhere on the ice. Brass brings some toughness to the table. Smitty is everywhere all the time. His quickness and speed along with his presence of mind puts him in the position to score all the time. I expect big things from this line all year long. I am sure I will not be disappointed,” said Madden.

Just like the U.S. Olympic Hockey team of 1980, the Mudbugs have a “NEVER BE OUTWORKED ATTITUDE,” “Just like Winston Churchill said, ‘Never, Never, Never give u. Musky is proud that his team always out works our opponent. He will never be satisfied with getting out worked on the ice. If someone stops pulling his weight he will be on the next bus out of town. We have the talent to win the whole thing. We will not quit. It is a Mudbugs tradition to never give up,” said Madden.

With the kind of talent that the Mudbugs have, and the kind of personalities that each player has, this team has a great opportunity to go all the way and win the championship. Remember, we will be covering the Mudbugs all season long.
