Patti Smith, James Sudakow and Hurtmodel Rock Santa Monica Tonight!

June Caldwell
Santa Monica tonight, a rare triple header:

The legendary Patti Smith FREE on the Santa Monica Pier at 7:30 pm, on the top echalon of Rollings Stones list of 100 best performers of all time.

Then, at 9 pm a few blocks away at Santa Monica's landmark rock pub showcase, 14 Below, two of So Cal's premier thundering progressive math rock and techno trios tear up the stage:

HURTMODEL at 9 pm and JAMES SUDAKOW, ELECTRIC VIOLIN EXPERIENCE at 10 pm

HURTMODEL: "Trevor’s Zappa-esque thrashing on guitar coupled with Bennett’s locomotive rhythms came on like being charged by a rhino with nothing between you and the dusty trail. It was one of those rock n roll moments when you could just let go and ride the guitar and drums like a roller coaster in flames. Intricate guitar and drum tempo changes like the coaster was lurching around bends into lands unknown, with plenty of power punches thundering throughout…”

Artrocker Magazine, UK, July 2007

JAMES SUDAKOW, ELECTRIC VIOLIN EXPERINCE: Supporting their new album, ‘Green’. "Sudakow wields his electric distorted violin like Hendrix does his guitar, with completely original song jams that set the room on fire…a raucus fusion burner and searing violin melodies. Sudakow will be a name on every progressive and fusionists fan’s mind.”

Sea of Tranquility, February 2007

14 BELOW at 1348 14TH St (14th street, a mile east of the pier and Santa Monica Blvd, 2 bl north of the pier), Santa Monica, CA 90404, $5 cover.
