PA: Discover The Amazing Creatures At Clyde Peeling´s Reptiland
When you visit you'll discover over forty species of reptiles and amphibians are exhibited in stunning naturalistic habitats, interpreted with vivid backlighted graphic panels that highlight each species´ diet, habitat, range and taxonomy. The modern indoor exhibit gallery presents fun facts about reptiles and amphibians, and engaging interactive components provide hands-on learning.
This is a wonderful way for family and anyone who loves nature to get up close this these amazing creatures. Reptiland is not a roadside attraction, but an organization that has been accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association since 1985. "My vision is to excite people about reptiles and amphibians in an environment that is both educational and fun. I hope Reptiland visitors leave with a more realistic wildlife ethic and a desire to protect wild places where these animals live," said Clyde Peeling founder of Reptiland on Route 15 in Allenwood.
The staff at Clyde Peeling´s Reptiland is most certainly an asset to the institution; most are college graduates with strong biology backgrounds and an understanding of animal behavior and physiology. At the zoo, they undergo a rigorous venomous snake-handling course. Keepers/lecturers have many hours of wrangling reptiles (venomous and non-venomous) before they stand before an audience with a cobra or rattlesnake. So, be assured as you sit in the audience while a venomous snake is being handled feet away from you, you won´t need to be looking for the nearest exit.
Not a seasonal zoo, it is open daily to the public and hosts birthday parties and school groups throughout the year. And there are reasons to visit again and again. Although the regular exhibits do not change, special events augment the normal displays. Flashlight Safari in October, Reptiland´s only evening event, introduces audiences to many unusual nocturnal creatures. The Tropical Rain Forest: Nature´s Hothouse is an April celebration of rain forest diversity, highlighting animals from the canopy to the forest floor.
Venom, Reptiland´s newest show featuring venomous snakes and lizards, premiered this summer. Zoo staff handle some of their deadliest reptiles while describing venom and envenomation. Hear a rattlesnake rattle in warning and see a cobra stand and hood in an attempt to look more fearsome. These special programs are what make Reptiland a gem for area families. It is an unparalleled educational resource right in our backyard.
