Fox News' Shepard Smith Teaches Poor Fire Safety
However, this train of thought is derailed by the fact that Smith spent the duration of the fire alarm in making fun of the situation. Even after it had been confirmed that smoke had been found on the same floor that Smith was on, he continued to downplay the potential danger that he and the rest of Fox News staff may have been in.
Even after being ordered to wait for special instructions, Smith went against decades of fire safety with his reckless and irresponsible behavior. While Smith may have found the situation funny, and provided comedic running commentary as the fire alarm lights continued to flash, he abandoned his professional responsibility of teaching younger viewers the proper way to handle a fire drill.
Any youngster who chooses to ignore the very real dangers of fire because they saw it on Fox News runs the risk of injury or death from fire burns and smoke inhalation. Smith and the rest of his staff at Fox News should take personal and professional responsibility to not only bring the news to the public, but also lead by example.A gross error such as this should not be overlooked, and Smith should adhere to safety rules regardless of whether a fire is actually occurring and his life is in danger or not.
While the fire alarm system may be guilty for crying wolf a few too many times, the easy ability to overlook a system put in place to protect the workers of Fox News could lead to a really threatening situation.
Let’s hope someone at Fox news chose to reprimand Smith for inadvertently contributing to a dangerous situation by denial of action. The entire video can be viewed on Liveleak.
