President Bush, End Gotcha Politics, Pardon Libby

Ken Hughes
It’s time for President Bush to end the gotcha politics. The indictment of Lewis Libby is another example of a special prosecutor making his investigation the crime and not the crime he was investigating. With nearly every special prosecutor, it’s the same scenario. If you can’t get them for what they supposedly did, get them for the way they explained they didn’t do.

President Bush can pardon both Libby and Rove, A presidential pardon is final, there’s no appeal. The president would take some heat from Democrats and I believe praise from the public. It would send a message, the public is tired of the Politics of Personal Destruction . This indictment was and is a media manufactured event designed to satisfy the thirst for news generated by a need to fill 24 / 7 coverage even when there’s nothing to cover.

Pundits are calling the Rove, Libby investigation another Watergate. Nothing could be further from the truth. If it equates to any pervious investigation it would be similar to Clinton’s problems. Where the crime wasn’t what was being investigated rather the investigation it’s self was the crime. Special Prosecutors call these people before Grand Juries and expect them to recall every conversation they’ve had in the past several years. Few are ever convicted on the original charge. They’re convicted because they misspeak to the grand jury or an investigator. There’ve been many but Bill Clinton and Martha Stewart are the most famous people to be trapped by an over zealous prosecutor.

Louis [Scooter] Libby will most likely be convicted and like Bill Clinton, pay a heavy fine, lose his license to practice law, write a book, go on the speaking circuit, and make another million. The country will lose an astute civil servant who left unscathed could continue to serve the nation. These men aren’t criminals; they’re men who guide the President and the Vice president They’re no more guilty of misdeeds than any congressperson. I venture to say there isn’t a sitting congressperson who hasn’t deliberately leaked

classified information to a reporter at one time or another. Yet the [body politic] randomly selects good men doing good work to feed it’s appetite for, “The Politics Of Personal Destruction.”

I’m convinced if President Bush issued a Presidential Pardon to Rove, Libby, and Delay to put an end to the abuses of special prosecutors and political prosecutions. Then went to the America people to explain his actions, telling them he did so to end the abuses of power given these prosecutors the American people would ultimately back the president 100 % . Who among us could survive an investigation by a special prosecutor with unlimited funds? Who among us knows when it will be our turn to defend ourselves against false charges?

The media are whores, if it looks like the public backs the president the media will reluctantly follow suite. Mr. President do the country a service. Pardon Libby, Rove, and Delay then call a primetime national news conference and explain your actions were to put an end to, The Politics of Personal Destruction. Good man and women’s reputations, families and lives are being destroyed, and for what one more headline that’ll be forgotten in a matter of weeks. The public’s willing to accept all government bureaucrats aren’t perfect, they’re people just like the rest of us doing their best to survive in that jungle called the Washington Beltway.

Let’s have our Republican Party stand for something. The people are willing to support a strong leader. It’s time to start acting like one Mr. President.
