Open Letter to President Bush: Do You Wish to Raise Your Approval Rating?
It breaks my heart to see you being hammered day in and day out by the vitriolic Democrat Party and their stooges in the mainstream media. It's been going on now for over five years and there doesn't appear to be an end in sight. They're even trying to have your most trusted aids locked up in prison in order to hurt you personally and professionally.
However, with the aid of your devoted supporters, such as yours truly, you've been successful in not only weathering the storm, but also in leading a victorious coalition of Americans, so much so that the Democrat leaders and their media lapdogs are being recognized by most Americans as deranged.
Unfortunately, Mr. President, your approval rating keeps going down, down, down. While nationally it hovers around 40%, in some states it's as low as 29%. This is absurd in itself since the most corrupt, dishonest and unproductive president in the 20th Century, Bill Clinton, never saw an approval rating below 50% even at the height of his impeachment.
Does this mean you must advocate more spending programs? Does it mean turning over nearly $250 billion to a bunch of corrupt, inept Democrat Party hacks in Louisiana? Do you really believe, sir, that touting a de facto amnesty program for illegal aliens will reinvigorate the conservative base of your party, which is, like it or not, the lifeblood of the GOP? None of these actions will help you in leading our nation.
May I suggest a few issues and actions that would most certainly blast your poll numbers through the roof:
1. Supreme Court Nomination - Mr. President, nominate a real originalist with a history of staunch conservatism. If a nominee is to be savaged, let him or her be savaged by the liberals. It was unseemly for conservatives to find themselves having to openly oppose you. Yet we could not allow you to squander this opportunity to correct the left-wing imbalance of the US Supreme Court. It's a reality that whomever you appoint will be sitting on the bench long after you've retired and enjoying your Crawford ranch. There is nothing more important than a Supreme Court filled with originalist judges as opposed to judges who hallucinate when they read the US Constitution. Nominate a conservative who will cause Democrats to screech on the airwaves everytime they're in front of a TV camera or microphone. Nominate a man or woman who will expose Kennedy, Schumer, Biden, and others as ones who are outside of the mainstream.
2. Border Security and Illegal Immigration - It's time for the US government to stop talking about border security and illegal immigration and actually do something about it. We as a nation respect our sovereignty and find a comprehensive immigration program will protect that sovereignty, as well as protect American lives. Quadruple the US Border Patrol. Provide them with state-of-the-art equipment and build a security wall to help them control our southern border. Crackdown on employers who hire illegal aliens and increase the penalties for violating our laws. Use the military to backup our Border Patrol agents. If states or cities refuse to help with enforcement, then withhold any moneys paid to those states and cities for homeland security and reimbursement for penal, healthcare and education expenses. If they wish to be "sanctuary cities" let them pay for it.
3. The War on Terror: Mr. President, you must keep pounding the message into the heads of Americans that we are fighting a war on terrorism including those who support, aid and abet terrorists. This also includes the Iraqi insurgency. We must be victorious. Do not allow the liberals and Democrats to snatch victory from our hands. They beat the antiwar drum daily, and our Commander-in-Chief must counter their shrill and childish rhetoric and rantings. Let's take the offensive against the enemy within, Mr. President. With all due respect, drop the Social Security debate. We take our eyes off the ball when we get involved in issues that confuse most Americans. Sure, Social Security is in danger; but it's a no-win situation when you have dishonest politicians using dishonest news organizations to scare and confuse the people of this great nation.
4. Tax Cuts: Mr. President, keep your administration and supporters beating the drum for more tax cuts, deeper tax cuts. And with those cuts we need to cut the budget. And tell the American people that 68% of the federal budget is for entitlements. Don't allow the so-called moderates in the GOP to be stingy with money for the military and homeland security. Get rid of the US Department of Education, a hotbed of left-wing radicalism. Let PBS and NPR compete in the free market. See how long they last when they rely on people actually listening and watching their propaganda and they find few advertisers. Stop the pork barrel projects and push for a line-item veto. If the liberal Republicans balk, then let them join the Democrat Party.
Mr. President, if you implement the above suggestions, I assure you of at least 10 to 15 point increase in your approval rating. Plus we'll enjoy the added pleasure of watching the Democrats show Americans that their party is warped by its hatred for American values.
Sincerely yours,
Jim Kouri
