ACCIDENT NEAR PENNY KING FILM LOCATION STIRS EMOTIONS

It was a cloudless beautiful July Sunday morning right at sunrise. The Penny King had been preparing all night to ready for the shooting of the opening scenes of the film near the Van Nuys airport.

There, across the railroad tracks, in an open field that is fenced off, but which allows access from Roscoe Boulevard, not far from the intersection at Balboa, at a camp where three houseless humans had their belongings piled up over the past few months, as if in slow motion, a small compact car sped and smashed into the bushes after careening off a telephone pole. Car parts exploded in every direction for hundreds of feet.

The picture above was taken at the scene of the accident which took almost an hour for the Sherriff to arrive at because 911 operators had labeled it a non emergency. No one was injured in the accident; however the Penny King, about an hour after getting the young girl out of the car with his screams, went into a state of shock.

Is anyone in there?” screamed the Penny King as he rushed toward the vehicle which was buried in the bushes. There were radio sounds coming from the vehicle. Then a young girl, about 20 years old stepped out of the passenger side.

Get away from the vehicle!” bellowed the Penny King as the 911 operator told him to lower his voice.

I was taking pictures of the Penny King’s car when I turned around from a photo I had just snapped and saw a speeding vehicle bounce off the edge of the road, smashing over the curb the bumpy railroad tracks caused it to leap into the air and careen off a telephone pole, disappearing into the bushes next to the houseless human camp, a few feet from the location where the Penny King is being staged and filmed.

I interviewed the Penny King about an hour after the accident and he went into a total state of grief shock. Grief shock is that mental state where a human breaks into a long stream of tears, unable to control the flood of emotion that rushes out of the body, as moments of pain and unconsciousness are released from the subconscious mind.

My father died in a car accident going 100 mph on the autobahn” near Frankfurt, Germany dribbled the Penny King. That had been 24 years earlier. His father fell asleep at the wheel with his step mother, two step sisters and a blood sister in the vehicle. His last words upon his death were, “I will be all-right”.

The next day it rained all day in Los Angeles. A social butterfly is flapping it’s wings in Los Angeles causing strange earthquakes and hurricanes half way round the world…whoever said chaos theory was a standardized scientific study.
