What does 2000 mean to you?

Earl J. Prignitz
On October 25, 2005, the toll of United States fatalities in Iraq reached the significant number of 2000. Stop and think about it dear friends, we have been involved in this illegal, immoral war well over 2 years now and we have lost 2000 of our best young men and women. Two thousand individuals who had dreams of their own and possessing enormous potential for good, manipulated and deceived for immoral reasons by a group of powerful men who took us into a criminal war for their own selfish reasons. 2000 families destroyed, 4000 parents devastated, lost their most precious treasure — their children — literally yanked away from them. You ask, “Who cares”? That’s a fair question, who really cares? Obviously it is only the parents and loved ones of those dead soldiers who care!

All the while Bush and his criminal cronies continue with their rhetoric about how Iraq is so much better off and how we will not bring the troops home until the mission is completed. What mission is it really? The personal agenda of a ruling clique, because it is clear by now that there is no humanitarian mission in Iraq.

I weep for all of those parents who are losing their loved ones in this unnecessary war and for all of the innocent Iraqis who have died. I simply cannot fathom how our president, who claims to be a follower of Jesus Christ, can in good conscience kill innocent Iraqis and allow our young men and women to sacrifice their lives for his ill-advised war. I often wonder how he can sleep at night when he has caused so much suffering and pain for all of the families of those who have died?

How much more blood will it take before this criminal war will end? How many more Iraqi children have to die? How many brave young American men and women must make the ultimate sacrifice? How many more parents must weep for their sons and daughters? Can anyone reply to those questions? My dear friends it is past time that we, the American people, rise up and demand that the lies and the dying stop immediately!

End the occupation of Iraq and bring our troops home. Paul Fusco in his photographs and comments gives us the "Bitter Fruit" of this tragic fiasco. Take a look it for it will really hit you with the truth. I urge you to go to: http://www.magnuminmotion.com/bitterfruit/player.html
