Explosion Rocks New York, Tornado Hits Long Island

Live Video from CNN is reporting a "volcano like explosion" that went off. They were quick to say that that it is not a result of terririost.

It was a major steam pipe explosion. The steam is still continuing at this time. The ground was shaking under the feet for moments.

The explosion was by Grand Central Station. Earlier reports of a building collapsing were found to be untrue.

It cannot be confirmed that it was a transformer , according to Paul Brown the Asssistant Commissioner of NYPD. He went on to say that they cannot eliminate the possibity of injuries.

Word has come that three people have been taken to the hosptial, with 2 of them being in critical condition.

Evacuations are taking place at the time, and people are being encouraged to leave the area. They want this because of the hazardous materials in the air. There is also possibility of another explosion.


NYFD is reporting that the explosion was because of 20 inch, but does not know the cause.

Several blocks have been corded off. The Subway system is not stopping at Grand Central Station. The explosion happened around 6 pm EST.

Earlier video showed people running away from the source of the blast. It is raining debrie at this moment.

The large plume of smoke is also still visible.

Some are saying that it reminded them of a volcano.

Earlier in the day Long Island was hit by a tornado. There was no major damage, but trees came down, and there was some wind damage. It was classified as a F-Zero, which means the winds were only between 40 and 70 degrees.

There was also some flooding, and thunderstorms are expected.
