MLB: Fundamentals Reason Sox Win

When the season began, talk was about the “usual suspects,” the Cardinals, Red Sox and Yankees. But the team who now holds the title of WORLD CHAMPIONS doesn’t have a player named Pujols, Schilling, or Jeter.

Back in March, all through Spring Training, and the entire season, one reason I really liked the Washington Nationals, was because of the fact that they knew what needed to be done in order to win games. They recognized the need for FUNDAMENTALS.

The Chicago White Sox proved once again that if you have fundamentals, you can win and keep in mind, that the Sox showed it both of defense and offense. Juan Uribe Wednesday night making a “Jeteristic,” type catch is the kind of defense you want to be able to know that your players are capable of executing. Also, give tons of credit to the bullpen and most importantly rookie Bobby Jenks. Jenks in the World Series had an ERA of 3.60, with 2 (SV), 5 (IP), 3 (H), 2 (R), 2 (W), and 7 (K). He also held the Astros to a .176 (SLG), and a .300 (OBA). On offense, the Sox had it all bunting to move runners into scoring position, pulling the ball, ability to read pitches, etc.

MVP Jermaine Dye compiled a .438 (AVG), 3 (R), 7 (H), and 3 (RBI).

Next season, the White Sox will have a lot of upside and it will be very interesting to see what Manager Ozzie Guillen, who said that he would walk away from the dugout if the Sox won the World Series, does in the coming days. Personally, I don't see how a guy like that would walk away from the game right now, and if he does, the White Sox will be in a big whole and the world of Major League Baseball, will greatly miss him.

Side Note

Now, with 97 years, the Cubs need to do something to erase the “Black Sox,” that still hover over Wrigley Field.
