Federal agents and New York City probation officers arrested 47 criminal alien sex offenders in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan as part of the Department of Homeland Security's "Operation Predator." Thirty-six of those arrested were in the country illegally, according to court documents.

The immigrants arrested are foreign born who've been convicted sex offenders guilty of rape, sodomy, assault with intent to cause physical injury, sexual abuse and sexual misconduct, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment, course sex conduct and possessing a sexual performance by a child. The youngest of the victims was three-years old.

"Predators stalk and attack the most vulnerable segments of society, our children," said Marcy Forman, Investigations Director for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

"Predators commit unspeakable acts that often do irreparable harm and rob the innocent of their innocence. Left on the streets predators can victimize communities time and time again. Today, we stopped these predators in their tracks, and the public safety of New York City is better off for it."

The New York operation is part of an ongoing effort to make sure that the city remains the safest big city in America, according to officials with NYC Department of Probabtion. Probation officers say they look forward to working with ICE on future operations especially with foreign nationals who commit sex crimes. Several of those arrested include foreign nationals convicted of heinous child sex crimes who remained on the streets on probation.

Case examples include:

A 36-year-old Honduran man in New York City who was previously charged with 13 counts of rape in the 3rd degree and endangering the welfare of a child. He was convicted of rape in the 3rd degree and sentenced to 10 years probation. The victim was 14-years-old at the time of the abuse, which occurred over a three-year period.

The victim was a 4-year-old girl at the time of crime while the predator was 50-years-old.

A Mexican man in New York City who was previously charged with incest, 3 counts of sexual misconduct, rape 3rd degree, and endangering the welfare of a child. The man was convicted of Rape 3rd degree and sentenced to ten-years probation. The victim was his 13-year-old daughter.

A man from Trinidad in New York City who was previously charged with four counts of sodomy 1st degree, two counts endangering the welfare of a child, and four counts sexual abuse 1st degree. The predator was convicted of Sexual Abuse 1st degree and act in a manner injurious to a child and sentenced to 6-months incarceration and 5 years probation. The 20-year-old man abused his two nieces aged three and four while babysitting them.

Overall, the arrests included citizens of Barbados, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ghana, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, Trinidad, and the Ukraine.

Thirty-six of the aliens were in the country illegally and fourteen were legal permanent residents. All predators have been placed into removal proceedings and transported to various detention facilities. Those predators already with final orders of removal will be deported from the country shortly and the remaining predators will have their cases heard before an immigration judge.

ICE's Operation Predator protects children by investigating and presenting for prosecution pedophiles, Internet predators, human traffickers, international sex tourists and other predatory criminals. Since Operation Predator was launched on July 9, 2003, ICE agents have arrested nearly 6,500 child predators and sex offenders nationwide and removed more than 3,100 criminal alien predators.
