What Happened To Winning In The Voting Booths

Ken Hughes
It seems Liberals are out to get the President any way they can. What ever happened to winning elections in the voting booths? It seems recently the election is no sooner over than the opposition starts looking for ways to upset the voter’s choices.

There’s a danger in authorizing the appointment of Special Prosecutors. They rarely do more than ruin the reputation of good men who are all too often falsely accused. The real targets slip through unscathed and the underlings go to prison. This has been the case since the Watergate hearings during the Nixon Administration. The practice of Politics of Personal Destruction should end the sooner the better. This is not the way the founding fathers intended for our government to function.

Jimmy Carter as I recall is the only President since Nixon that’s escaped special prosecutors inquests. The public selects their choice and the Washington Beltway immediately goes to work to try to upset their decision. The Media spends their time speculating rather than informing the public. News should be reported to inform, not entertain. Where’s Edward R. Murrow when we need him?

A reasonable person would not consider an off-handed remark to a reporter the crime of the century. Valerie Plame as far as we know was never a CIA undercover operative. She was however somewhat of a Washington Social Butterfly. Her employment by the CIA has been reported in the Washington gossip columns more than once. Secondly, Judith Millers notes refer to a Victoria Wilson and a Valerie Flame. Her employer, The New York Times, now questions Miss Miller’s reporting, yet the media speculation regarding Karl Rove and Lewis Libby continues. Is this trivia what our government should be wasting their time and our tax dollars on?

The indictments against Tom DeLay are equally ridiculous. They’re payback for his involvement in redistricting Texas voting lines. The Harris County Prosecutor has gone after other Republicans in the past. He uses his office to do what the voters wont do, get rid of Republicans in Texas. When the first indication Tom DeLay may be indicted, every politician in Washington went back over their records to correct the inaccuracies in their campaign contributions.

Most of what we read regarding the misdeeds of our elected officials is pure media speculation. Once a rumor’s out there. Some will be inclined to expand it into a media driven catastrophe. Congress in their zeal to appear perfect in the eyes of the public has set some impossible standards. Singularly these rules seen reasonable, collectively they make it impossible for men and women to operate in a normal fashion. These rules they set for themselves are hampering their ability to do their jobs. Every time an indiscretion rears its ugly head congress rushes to enact legislation to cover their six’s, right or wrong.

Most voters would rather have a productive congress than a perfect one. Electing manicured Mannequins isn’t exactly why we go to the polls every two years. We go to elect people who we feel, hope, and pray will keep the Republic together for one more election cycle. With each of those, election cycles our chances for a constitutionally driven Congress dims.

What will it take for those performing primates to return to the real world? What will it take for voters to demand more from their congress than they’re giving now. What about Term Limits, a Maximum of 12 years in either or both Houses of Congress.
