Bishops Say No to Sex for Priests

Del Williams
The Bishops says, No Sex or Marriage for Priests!! Will that help or hurt those considering entering the priesthood. Let’s face it this is not working. Man was created to be with a woman, preferably his wife for life. On what biblical basis they think celibacy is commanded shows a distortion of the truth that Jesus presented? If they want to look at Jesus as the example, let’s be reminded that his earthly ministry was three years and ended in his death. He knew that, so he did not take a wife to make her a widow.

The most dangerous thing that priests have to deal with is an over zealous bingo player. Since they cannot seem to keep their hands off their parishioners, then they should leave the priesthood and get married. Of course, Pedophiles are different beings. Pedophilia is generally incurable. Death is the only cure for stopping most pedophiles from sexually abusing children. Light sentences often result in abusers repeating their crimes. The average pedophile sexually abuses a minimum of 260 victims during his or her lifetime - without ever getting caught. Of the few pedophiles who are imprisoned, over 90% are arrested for the same offense after their release from prison.

We see how well the Catholic Church has done with this issue. They seem to have been the best place for hiding pedophiles. Of course, marriage may not be the answer for the sick and twisted, but for the majority. How can they tell someone else how to be married when they have not been? What advice can they give a parent with a rebellious teen when they have no children?

The problem is that the Catholic Church seems more interested in safeguarding their traditions then they are with handling the problems those traditions having caused. There is nothing wrong with marriage, but there is something wrong with fornication. There is nothing wrong with sex, but there is a huge issue with pedophilia. What will it take for the Church leadership to see that celibacy is not the answer?
