Jihad and its moral impediments

Rauf Naqishbendi
In every era of its history mankind has had its challenges to face: battles to fight, peace to make, evils to eliminate, conflicts to resolve and wrongs to right. Today, we are facing religious fanatics as they attempt world domination. This is one of the oldest predicaments in history; it’s even more ominous than that of Nazi Germany. It took a few years to root out Hitler and his Party, but we have been fighting fanatic Moslems for over a decade without apparent success, and the worst of it is yet to come unless the fanatic terror organizations are uprooted. The elimination of these menacing groups requires a unified front by every creed, in particular the Moslems as these thugs are nesting amongst them. God’s covenant with humanity is that we are to relate to others with peace, love, harmony, appropriate conduct and behave in such a way that no one’s actions disturb another. If religious figures from all faiths were to preach this covenant, the disheartening suffering and lamentation that exists would at best be greatly lessened, and the world in which we all live would be a better place.

Tragically, the cause of this problem, its violence and excessive bloodshed, has to do with education and indoctrination. The preaching of some Moslem mullahs, both in public and in private, is the root cause of this phenomenon. If these mullahs were to exclude the words “jihad” and “fatwa” from their preaching, and cease preaching the administration of justice through bloody violence, the practice of taking revenge to right wrongs, and killing and beheading instead of dialogue and other peaceful means of engagement, then this crisis would be a story of the past.

Every day new terrorists are born. Their nourishment in many cases is their dismal economic environment, but in all cases the brain washing they undergo and the incentives they are offered that can’t be paralleled, such as the promise of making merry in heaven upon their death. Victims have been told there will be forty virgins for every man awaiting them. All these insane images and meaningless illusions are promoted and believed in while there is no reference to these promises in the book of Quran, which these morons behold as holy. The incentive of the forty virgins is the most rewarding, and therefore one can say these terrorists are indeed sexually motivated. If it were true that there were going to be forty virgins for every man and that there will be springs and rivers of delicious aged wine and of a variety of cocktails (as they have claimed), heaven would turn into a gigantic drunken orgy! Which, of course, is against God’s principles - God condemns this kind of behavior on earth, how can one expect these salacious offers in heaven? If the population of heaven were to be represented by these terrorists, heaven would look like a jail with murderers, thieves and criminals, and one would have no impetus or desire to enter.

Qualifying for admission to heaven is a principle outlined in the Quran; accordingly good, honest, benevolent work and moral virtue are the keys to heaven. Obviously, this is not being faithfully adhered to. These murderers are worthless and useless members of society who can’t do good for themselves or others; these are the dregs of communities who cannot do the good works to gain admission to heaven, and they believe they can do it by killing. Rest assured in actuality their actions grant them entrance to Hades. Doing evil is by far much easier than doing good. Consider any skyscraper or bridge: it takes thousands of people and years to build; just imagine all the skill, labor and hard work needed. Once the bridge or skyscraper is completed, it will take only a malignant person with a couple powerful bombs to destroy them in the blink of an eye. Evil has an easy job compared to the assiduous and laborious tasks before those who strive to do good.

Some mullahs and other influential Moslem figures are issuing jihad, aiming at others’ lives as if they were God’s disciplinary agents, or his delegated law enforcement officials. They label others as “infidels” to license and justify their diabolical actions. What is mind-boggling is that these thugs are in great violation of their own faith. In all holy testaments, God has occasioned every human the chance to be forgiven through repentance. This forgiveness is unconditional and without prerequisites. It has no time restrictions since it is never too late to repent as long as the repentance is genuine. Killing a person because of infidelity is an evil act, robbing that person of the chance God has given.

The preaching of extreme right wing fanatic Christians and Jewish extremists are not excluded from this issue - they also need to cease their odious, reckless and inflammatory pronouncements. It must be recognized that the power lodged in the hands of religious figureheads is immense and consequential; with good deeds and responsible teaching the injustice of hatred and anger can be averted.

It should be understood by preachers from all creeds that there is no justification for wrongdoing, and perhaps the most terrible sin of all is that of preaching hate or anger. Improper teaching is a moral impediment overshadowing truth, conducing division and animosity among humanity and spoiling the world’s much needed peace and tranquility.
