You can be Jesus’ messenger

[This article is factual; it is based on the writer’s personal experience.]

You read Jesus’ instruction at the end of Mark 16. You know you must do something about the people in your town. You know that those who reject Jesus have the wrath of God on them because it’s in John 3:36.

Futuristically you picture the people going into the flames of Revelation 20:15; those who ignored Jesus whilst alive; who thought their good works would get them into heaven. You see them protesting, yelling how good they were.

As you imagine that, your fear of man diminishes. The unsaved person’s eternal destiny overrides your fear. You make a decision to inform them about Jesus. Come Wednesday in your lunch break you’ll skip the food and get into action.

Wednesday arrives, and you put your tracts into a plastic bag. You leave the office and find a quiet place to pray. Then you nervously venture onto the busy street corner. Timidly with outstretched hand you offer a tract to those passing by. You’re too nervous to speak.

Occasionally people smile and take a tract. Then a young guy examines your tract, scowls, and rips it up in front of you. It hasn’t taken long for satan to attack. You want to slink away, but something tells you to stay.

Now a big man with a beard is looking at the tract title and he yells “Jesus is dead!” He rants on, and people stare. Suddenly you remember what Matthew 8:16 says: “And He cast out the spirits with His word.” So you say it. Then you recite a scripture you have memorized: “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7) As you speak the Word the man shuts up and goes away. Then you realize the power in the spoken Word of God. It dawns on you the angry man didn’t know what you were saying - but the spirit driving him did. You know that the Holy Spirit gave you the verse.

You realize that all God’s Bible promises are backing you. (See refs below.) You have stepped out and seen God step in.

You are growing more confident by the minute. You become aware this is a spiritual battle and satan doesn’t want you here. You smile, and become even more determined he isn’t going to win.

Now you look people in the eye and say boldly: “Here’s some good news, and it’s free.” Suddenly you realize 45 minutes have passed and you’ve given out a hundred tracts.

You say “Wow. Thank you Lord” and eagerly look forward to next week when, instead of sitting out the lunch break comfortably, you’ll obey what Jesus said. You’ll be an instrument in helping people avoid that lake of fire.

Here are God’s promises that will back you. Psalm 23:4 – Isaiah 41:10 – Matthew 5:13-14, 8:16, 28:19-20 – Mark 16:15 - Luke 10:19 - 2 Corinthians 2:15 - Philippians 4:13 - 2 Timothy 1:7 – Hebrews 1:14 – James 4:7 - 1 John 4:4
