NCAA: The Effingham Sheboygan Polls
Credit: Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Charlie Weis said it best during his press conference when he talked about how instant replay doesn’t always work in the NFL, but at least the =use of it is consistent no matter where you play.
I am not going to rant about how Reggie Bush pushed Matt Leinart into the “paydirt,” because that isn’t really the question even though it is CLEARLY ILLEGAL if you read he NCAA Rules Manual. What I am going to question though, is the spotting of the ball. Had the ball been spotted where it should’ve been, then there is no way possible that Bush could’ve pushed Leinart into the “paydirt.”
Now, the polls. Why is it that people can’t seem to get the clue that polls don’t work?
AP: #9 Notre Dame
Harris: #11 Notre Dame
USA Today: #12 Notre Dame
BCS: #16 Notre Dame
As Darryl “Hambone” Hamilton would say, “This is EFFINGHAM SHEBOYGAN. Voters know about the rule putting Notre Dame into a BCS Bowl by them finishing in the top 9, and are going to hold them down. If you look at the rest of the Irish schedule, combined, their opponents are 13 - 9 and (1 postponed Navy at Rice). The Irish won't get any love beating the likes of BYU, Navy, Syracuse, and Stanford won’t bring them any love among voters.
The only answer to these EFFINGHAM POLLS is a playoff system. Yes it makes the season longer, but at least we could decide the championship on the field instead of on paper or in a computer.
