Iletyou.com: Turning Anyone Who Owns Movies or Games Into an Online Rental Store

Timothy Sexton
I recently published an article suggesting that the shark swimming around Netflix—Blockbuster Video—might be defeated in the form of Netflix entering into contracts with locally owned and operated video stores of the kind that used to populate every neighborhood in America before Blockbuster moved in and began employing workers who seemingly never watch movies. Go figure. Not too long after that article went live I received a message from Rodger Vistacion, founder of Iletyou.com, informing me that his company is working hard to bring back the kind of personalized video store community operated by people who actually love movies rather than just loving money.

Iletyou.com is such a brilliantly simple idea that it really knocks you for such a loop that you just have to smack your head and ask yourself why you didn’t think of it yourself. The idea is expressed in the slogan of Iletyou.com: Rent from anyone. Rent to anyone. You’ve probably got a collection of DVDs and games at home, right? Have you ever wished that you could make money off them by renting them out? Especially those games you’ve already beaten or those movies you don’t watch nearly as much as you thought you would? Fortunately, the corporate criminals who want to attach copyright laws to their very thoughts have so far not been successful in applying copyright ownership to actual DVD and game disks when it comes to rental privileges. Therefore, you have every right to make money off your own personal collection by renting them out. And that’s exactly what you do with Iletyou.com. The web site allows literally any adult to set up a virtual online store and showcase your collection of movies on DVD and games for rental. Likewise, you can also take advantage of what other people have by renting from them. The best part is that there are no upfront fees for listing your movies; Iletyou.com only makes money by taking a commission out of your actual rental fees. And since you don’t have any overhead except for the shipping costs, that’s a pretty sweet deal if this thing should take off and you’ve got an impressive collection of rentable games and movies.

But what if your collection isn’t that extensive? Apparently that isn’t stopping some people. As I browsed through the virtual stores on Iletyou.com I came across one store where the entire library consisted of just one copy of Rocky. You’ve got to start somewhere, right? I once read, for instance, that Bill Gates started out with nothing but two dollars and the code for DOS that he stole out of the pocket of the man who actually had the creativity to invent it. Maybe one day that little store will become a real-life Rocky and use steroids to turn into a competitor of Blockbuster Videos.

Now I know what you’re thinking. Daphne, what if one of my favorite games or movies gets lost or stolen? Well, in the first place it’s Timothy, not Daphne. In the much more important second place, Iletyou.com handles all legal disputes and will even refund your fees in the case of damaged discs. Okay, you’ve got a link here to the Iletyou.com web site so for all your in-depth questions I heartily recommend you go there. Meanwhile, I’ve got to get to work on building on my own Iletyou.com video store. I need a creative and witty title for my store. I’m thinking…Timothy Sexton’s Video Store.

If you can’t find me under that name, check back here for an update on what I finally decide to name my store.
