One Hit Wonders? I think not! - Sneaker Pimps
Their opening track, “Low Place Like Home”, intices you into taking a journey through a world where home isn’t the typical mainstream comfort zone. Making you feel like you need to get up and leave, if you’re listening to this at home, it delivers its message clear and direct. Packaging their message with a wonderful trip-hop style beat, this track sets the tone for the rest of the album.
Next up is “Tesko Suicide”. With a more hip-hop style beat than its predecessor, this track still delivers a punch trip-hop listeners can appreciate. I would dedicate this track to anyone that is sick of mainstream looks and attitudes. This one is definitly a punch in the face of mainstream style.
Making our way to “6 Underground”, the third track needs no introduction. With major airplay with their albums release in 1996, this is the cult classic you listen to when you have had a rough night. In fact, this track creates a picture that is enough to fufill even the worse of moods. Simple but great track.
Sping Spin Sugar” is another hit from “Becoming X”. A funky trip-hop-like beat invites us into this almost sci-fi melody. There is no doubt that this track reveals the lead singer’s sex appeal in her voice. This track is for those Monday mornings when you don’t want to get up….for whatever reason!
We’ll skip ahead, as not to ruin the rest of the tracks, to track number 9 - “Wasted Early Sunday Morning”. As the title suggests, this track is loaded with great things. This track mixes a hip-hop style beat with an acoustic guitar provding the melody. Creating the perfect picture of a Sunday morning, this track may bring back memories for you of your Sunday mornings at your old college. Great demonstration of vocals. Great use of acoustic guitar.
Not every trip-hop outfit can get away with using acoustic guitar plucks for their melody, but somehow, the Sneaker Pimps meanage to pull it off.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I give the entire CD a 8.5. Great job.
