The 13th Step Is Always Fun - A Perfect Cricle

Starting with the album title, this CD has all the markings of a band that is representing a 12-step program. But, do not let that deter you from one of the best albums ever. Yes, I said ever.

Opening with “The Package”, Maynard (the lead singer) has us believing he was just picked out of a drug rehab center and placed behind a mic in the recording studio. His impeccable story of an addict’s need to find his next hit makes you shiver with enjoyment. It is an absolutely raw performance that is alone worth the price of the CD.

The Noose” brings us to track number 3. Not letting us down, Maynard delivers another stunning vocal performance on top of an almost trip-hop like beat. This track brings into question, almost a paradox, one of the 12 steps from Narcotics Anonymous. Have a listen and enjoy this track each time you press the back button to listen to this calming rock ballad.

Finally, there is “The Outsider”. No mystery to this title at all. This track is most definitely dedicated to anyone that has ever felt outside the norms of society. The heavy bass riffs mixed with Maynard’s almost agitated vocals, deliver a track that anyone can appreciate.

Overall, “Thirteenth Step” can be appreciated by almost anyone that dares to journey into the mind of Maynard. From start to finish A Perfect Circle delivers an honest introspective look inside an addicts mindset.
