Dell Inspirion 1100 -- Deal or Headache?

John T. Darrah
At first, this Dell laptop seems like a great deal. You get a 2.0+ghz laptop, CD burner, plenty of RAM and a nice screen for a decent price. But much more lies beneath the surface of this laptop.

The first thing that may stick out are issues with the power adapter. There have been numerous accounts of power adapter issues. The foremost being the melting of the power cord while it is attached to the laptop. This not only causes frustration, but also can be very expensive. Issues with the pa-9 adapter breaking have also been reported.

On the good side, you get a very fast laptop with s-video capability for a very nice price. Being able to share movies and home videos is a definite plus. The included CD/RW-DVD-ROM drive is also a nice touch. Watching movies on the go is a nice luxury to have. The 2.0ghz processor also goes well with the nice size of memory that is included with the Dell Inspirion 1100.

If you?re in the market for a relatively inexpensive laptop packed with features, this is should be your choice. As an added caution, make sure your model has not had any of the power cord issues aforementioned and you should be good to go.
