Guess What Is The Top Search Term For The Last 10 Years?

Robert Paul Reyes
The Internet is the Information Highway, where scholars and seekers of truth from all over the world make pit stops at Web sites to glean information about current events, news and other important subjects.

Right, and the moon is made out of green cheese. The Internet does provide a lot of useful and practical information, but it is also populated by surfers riding waves of pornography and trivia.

Lycos, one of the top search engines, recently announced the top 10 search terms from Sept. 1995 through Sept. 2005.

The top search term for the past ten years is a personality who is frequently in the news. Care to take a guess? Certainly, it has to be a major religious or political leader who had a tremendous impact on history? Is it Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Pope John Paul II, Tony Blair, Saddam Hussein, Princess Diana or Nelson Mandela?

Nope, it's Pamela Anderson, whose claim to fame are her fake boobs and the sex tape she made with Tommy Lee Anderson.

Most Internet surfers are not seeking to expand their minds or stimulate their brains, they are trying to find and download a copy of Pamela Anderson's sex tape.

Here is a list of the top ten search terms:

1. Pamela Anderson

2. Dragonball

3. Pokemon

4. Britney Spears

5. WWE

6. Tattoos

7. Las Vegas

8. NFL

9. Sept. 11 Attacks

10. Christmas

Why am I not surprised that quantum mechanics, religion or politics didn't make the top ten?

This top ten list is a sure sign that Armageddon is right around the corner. Here we have this great technology that gives us access to oceans of valuable information and we are using it to surf Web sites about Pamela and Pokemon?
