Some Thoughts on Mary Cheney's Baby and the Christian Right's Hypocrisy
I believe children need both a mother and a father, so I can hardly be considered a fan of fatherless parenting, but I'm sure that both Cheney and Poe will be good, loving parents, and I oppose some of the anti-gay bigotry that they've endured.
I also oppose many conservative Christian leaders for whom "family values" means little more than fighting and/or bashing gays and gay marriage, and who refuse to "defend the family" by defending fathers and fatherhood in any meaningful way. To the extent that the Christian Right does deal with family breakdown, most prefer to take the easy way out and pretend it's all men's fault. They are scared to confront the politically incorrect fact that it is women who initiate the vast majority of divorces, sometimes with little compelling reason.
I criticized James Dobson, leader of Focus on the Family, over this issue in my blog post Look Who's Defending Fathers Now, which can be found here: http://glennsacks.com/blog/?p=18.
