The Causes of Skin Tags
Before the main suspects that cause skin tags are discusses, lets discuss what the tags are anyway. They are nothing but small growths on the skin that appear all over and are basically harmless and painless as well. These tags tend to hang from the skin and can differ in appearance color and size. They may be harmless, but they can still cause a lot of worry and embarrassment, particularly if the tags appear in the visible areas of the skin.
As mentioned above, no one is sure on the exact causes of skin tags. But there are a lot of theories going around. Mostly the tags are seen in people who are either in their middle age or are seniors they are seldom found in young people. So it is thought that the process of aging causes skin tags and those who believe this say that the tags begin to form when the production of Human Growth Hormone (HGH) stops. Obesity and a high sugar level in the blood are also causes of skin tags. Yet another reason why weight maintenance should be a priority.
Another popular theory is that when the skin rubs frequently it leads to skin tags. This theory takes birth from the fact that the tags are frequently seen in the groin region and also under the arms places where there is a constant rubbing of the skin. So friction leading to irritation is another likely cause of skin tags.
It has been seen that more women rather than men have skin tags and so it is believed that it might have something to do with the female anatomy. Perhaps an overuse of beauty products might be causing the problem. Pregnancy has also been linked to this.
There are those who believe that skin tags are hereditary. So if there have been instances in the family, then it is likely that the future generations might also see these skin growths. Other causes include malabsorption and maldigestion problems. In rare instances, an allergy to a particular medicine has also led to the appearance of these skin tags. The use of steroids particularly to build up muscles may also be another likely candidate.
The human papillomavirus which leads to warts when it becomes active can also contribute and make a person have skin tags. This can be another cause.
