We need a Christian revolution

Rod Smith
What passes for Christianity today falls short of what we read in the New Testament. A revolution is required – in attitude and Bible interpretation, Churches must climb out of the bog of man-made tradition.

Generally, there is much worldliness in today’s church, resulting in timid, powerless Christianity.

What was (and should be today) a supernatural faith is - along with other faiths - put in the box called “religion.” Christianity is in the main merely spoken of, not shown in terms of the supernatural.

Jesus was supernaturally born of a virgin – impossible in human logic. If humanly conceived, Jesus would have been tainted with sin, as we are all descended from Adam. He turned water into wine, made the blind to see, the lame to walk. An “incurable” woman was healed just by touching His garment. Jesus rose from the dead.

He not only spoke of God, but proved God is real by doing the miraculous. His actions spoke louder than words.

Ah, you say, but Jesus is the Son of God. Granted, but just before ascending (Mark 16) He told the disciples to heal the sick, preach the gospel, cast out demons by His authority – and they did! They also raised the dead. (Acts 20:9-12) The Book of Acts recounts the signs and wonders they and the apostles did.

Oh, the sceptics say, the supernatural happenings were only for then. “The church was just beginning, so all those supernatural events were just for that time.” That’s another lie spread by satan. Hebrews 13:8 disproves it emphatically: “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever.” What Jesus did then He will do now. Supernatural happenings do occur in Jesus’ name, where there is faith.

So the task of every church and believer is to restore Christianity to what God intended instead of this diminished version.

We must dispense with the human, non-biblical traditions – the socials, the barbecues, conferences, seminars, the vast sums spent on buildings used only twice a week. There, the faithful wait for non-believers to come in, contrary to Jesus’ instruction to go out with the message. We must stop praying for Holy Spirit power as if it were futuristic: God has already given it to those who are born again!

Church leaders – do a U-turn. The Prayer Night (not just one hour) has to replace the Candlelight Supper. Witnessing at the shopping mall has to replace the Coffee Morning social in the nice, safe, café.

A true church of Jesus Christ will preach the almost forgotten (but not by God) words of the Bible – sin, hell, repentance, holiness, righteousness. It may not be what people want to hear, but it is truth.

We have to stop giving God the leftover time after watching TV and time spent in a myriad other items of self-interest. We must get serious with God.

Christians must believe they can do what Jesus says (Mark 16:15-18). In John 14:12 Jesus told the disciples they would do greater works than He did! It happened - because they believed Him!

Today there should be a desire to have the heart, the guts, of the early believers. They loved Jesus enough to go to jail, even die for Christ – and many did. We need a Christian revolution.
