Fox News: Tabloid TV At Its Worst
Beth Holloway Twitty is a ubiquitous presence on Fox News, she gets more air time than President George W. Bush, Tom Delay and the Pope.
I empathize with Beth Twitty's situation, but she doesn't merit wall-to-wall coverage, instead of participating in a televised sob-session with Dr. Phil, she should quietly seek professional help.
Even when Fox News tries to do legitimate journalism, it gets it wrong. Case in point, James Rosen's interview with Condoleezza Rice.
Condoleezza Rice told James Rosen: "I was very young at the time of the counterculture. I was 12 or 13. And I was a music major. All I did was play the piano and ice skate. And so I don't think I focused very much on the counterculture."
Incredibly, Rosen did not press this issue further. I'm a couple of years younger than Rice, and as an Hispanic, the civil rights era defined who I am. To grow up during the counter-culture revolution and not be influenced by it, reveals a remarkably shallow personality.
Rosen asked Condoleezza Rice if she had ever done drugs, the Secretary of State, demonstrating her diplomatic skills, suggested he question her about foreign policy.
Rosen asked Rice whether she would like to have any superpowers.
"Superpowers?" incredulously asked Condoleezza Rice, the Secretary of State and one of the most powerful women in the world. What is Rosen going to do next, ask the Pope if he would like to one day be in a position to influence Catholic doctrine?
Fox News is great if you want to immerse yourself in the sleazy world of tabloid journalism, but for citizens interested in real news, I suggest you tune in to CNN or C-SPAN.
