And What If There Were A Cure...

Judy Ramsook
Some of these advertisements are seen in some newspapers and magazines, sometimes they are even placed in spots between television shows or programmes.

What are they? Research companies seeking subjects in their quest for cures for ailments and diseases such as Diabetes, different types of Cancer, and many more life threatening diseases.

But if cures for certain terminal and chronic diseases were found, one can just imagine the impact those cures would have on the medical field, not to mention the pharmaceutical companies that manufacture the different types of medication. Or maybe not.

For if there are cures that work in the way they should, such as being able to eliminate certain diseases from the body, then the only doctor those afflicted with such diseases will see for follow up visits and prescriptions are the doctors who are in some way affiliated with the cure.

But since not everyone has a terminal or life threatening disease, many people will continue seeing doctors that treat minor ailments. So many in the medical profession and those associated with it will not gradually be phased out of the job market.

For people will still need to see other doctors who treat other things such as pregnancy, injuries such as broken bones due to accidents or involvement in a sporting activity, allergies and other ailments. And since those who have such ailments will still need to be treated for their conditions, then they will also need prescribed medication.

And in so doing, the pharmaceutical companies will continue manufacturing those types of medicine for those persons, so for the most part, they will prevail.

And since some pharmaceutical companies will also have to manufacture the cure for life threatening diseases, they will also stay in tact. As for members of the medical staff such as nurses and so on.

They will always be needed, for some one does not necessarily need to be seriously ill in order to be hospitalised. He/she could have other problems such as a serious leg or arm injury that need strengthening until he/she is strong enough to be discharged from hospital care.

All in all, it should be interesting to witness the effects of making certain cures for some diseases available for public use. Of course there might even be some cures that might not work for everyone who is afflicted with the same ailment.

Their uses as cures will depend on certain factors. Such as the strength or weakness of an afflicted person’s body, his/her immune system and what stage or stages the disease is in. Then there is the cost factor.

Just because there might be a cure for a certain disease, does not necessarily mean that it will be readily available to everyone who is afflicted with the disease.

It will be available to those who can afford to purchase the product. So it should be interesting to see how it all works out if certain cures for some life threatening diseases are discovered.
