Hemorrhoids in Children - Treatment and Prevention

If the child is suffering from a itching or burning sensation in the anus, it could be hemorrhoids. Actually hemorrhoids in children are a common cause of itching and discomfort. Hemorrhoids are more common than most people think – actually they are widespread and a large section of the population suffer from the condition. According to studies, as many as half of all people tend to have hemorrhoids by the time they turn 50, but sadly most of them do not seek medical advice.
Though hemorrhoids or piles as they are also popularly known as, tend to develop with advancing age usually, but it has been seen in children as well. Hemorrhoids can happen to both men and women, but this disease is seen in more men rather than women. And in case of children too this is true.
Though hemorrhoids happen in children but in most cases the severity of less making the issue not much serious. Usually it goes off with time but sometimes the advice and treatment of a medical professional may become necessary.
Hemorrhoids are basically of two types – internal hemorrhoids and external hemorrhoids. Both these types of hemorrhoids can affect children.
Though it is not known to be hereditary, but it has been observed that hemorrhoids are more common in families with a history. This means that if the parents/parent has it, it is more likely that the children will also get it – be it in the younger years or in the later stages of life.
Ladies who are pregnant also tend to suffer from hemorrhoids and the condition can be related to her carrying the child. It is suspected that since there is more pressure in the tummy, it gets manifested in the anus and develops into hemorrhoids. But soon after childbirth, the hemorrhoid condition tends to dissolve naturally. So it is not essential that pregnant mothers expecting children take any medicine for their hemorrhoids – it is quite a common condition. And anyways, those who are pregnant need to be extra careful about the medicines they are taking.
In children, hemorrhoids can develop from constipation as well because children often do not have proper stool habits. And constipation over time has been known to develop into conditions like hemorrhoids.
Be careful with kids – particularly if they have hemorrhoids. That is because the same treatments used for adults may not always work. And this is an area that is often neglected because normally this ailment does not happen to children. Mostly adults have hemorrhoids. So there are not too many medications that can cure hemorrhoids in children.
In case of adults surgery is always an option if the hemorrhoids do not go with medication. But surgery is best avoided when there are hemorrhoids in children.
A natural remedy is safe and can give better results, particularly for hemorrhoids in children.
But whatever the case, never treat the case at home expecting the problem to go away. Take the child to a doctor and soon hemorrhoids will be a thing of the past.
