Have you ever noticed? (3) Too Much Team Everything?

Judy Ramsook
Way before I began penning my ´Have you ever noticed?´ pieces some one suggested that I call them my Did you know? Columns instead. I decided to stick to the have you ever noticed title because while knowing something can be great, noticing takes a little more effort.

You know, you might have to examine something closely, look twice or even do what is known as a double take. Moving on now, have you ever noticed how much more useful the word team is in today´s world?

It seems like every where you go some one is on a team, some one needs to gather a team or some one wants to be on a team. For example, you call your local Domino´s pizza place to order that wonderful treat we all love, what do you hear?

As you listen to the series of recorded options one of the things it says is: ´some one from our team will be with you shortly.´

You get a job, you are instantly placed on a team. You volunteer do some community service charity work, you are also placed on a team.

You enlist in a branch of the military, you become a member of a team.

If you feel a little lonely playing that video game by yourself, now some video games come with a multi player option. You can go online and find a team of gamers who can enjoy playing that game with you.

Sure, more can be accomplished if there is more than one person on the job. You split up the work into a series of tasks and if everyone does his/her job right, the work is done more efficiently and even faster.

But it´s like everywhere I go, I keep hearing the word team. Team this, team that. Is there too much team spirit? Do we need more? Because it seems we don´t do anything alone anymore.

That´s good because some people accomplish more when they work in groups. Being on a team gives them a sense of purpose and meaning and maybe the slight competition vibe helps too.

Have you ever noticed that?
