Cool Dog Names for Super Cool Canines

Andy West
As a new dog owner, one of the most difficult tasks is finding a name. The classics seem dull and just don´t seem to fit the little ball of fur asleep on the floor. When searching for cool dog names for a pet there are some creative ways to begin the search.

Some famous dogs are known for being cool. Spuds McKenzie was a mascot but became the ultimate party animal. There was the Taco Bell dog, the dog that was the mascot for Sony and Joe Cool, Snoopy´s alter ego. Selecting one of these names for a puppy will help him on his path to notoriety.

When searching for cool names turning to TV shows or movies is an excellent search. Beyond animal names, some people like to name their pets after macho TV characters. Kojak, Magnum, and Colombo were famous television detectives and an owner may like them as a name for a new puppy.

Movies are another source for pet names. Chewbacca is a famous character from the Star Wars series. Chewie, the nickname for this sci-fi character, is another option.

Solo, Skywalker, Anakin, Leia, these are unique names in their own right and could make good choices for a pet. Anime shows may provide good names for a new dog. Pokemon, Bakugan, and other children shows have exotic names that may be fun for a canine.

The names of Greek and Roman gods have been an excellent resource for pet names. Ares, Mars, Jupiter, Hera, Zeus, Perseus, Aphrodite, and Hermes are just some of the choices. Each god represented a particular trait, such as wisdom, war, speed, or love. The name may be grandiose, but the personality trait may fit the pet´s character.

There are other mythological characters to choose from in addition to the Greek Pantheon. Egyptian, Norse, and Hindu gods are other popular cool dog names. Isis, Kali, and Osiris can be a good choice for pets.

Some people turn to books to find names for an animal. Tolkien´s famous serious have many excellent names for a new pet. Aragon, Bilbo, Gandalf, Legolas, and Pippin may be a suitable name for the little canine currently trying to eat the newspaper.

Many excellent fantasy, science fiction, and classic tales can be used as a source for names. Harry Potter and Twilight are two famous story collections where people are currently finding names for pets and children. Look for bestselling series at a bookstore and they may be able to offer some suggestions.

Songs are a resource for finding pet names. There are some great songs and the names in the title may not be suitable for a person, but make a great name for a pet. Brandy, Rio, Diamond, and Lola are good names for a puppy, while a child may grow up to resent her parents for these names.

Cool dog names may be found in the most unlikely places. Look around and finding the best name for a new pet is possible. Find several possibilities and then narrow the list down to the most viable based on family preferences and the personality of the puppy. Try to pick a name that everyone likes, for once a name is chosen it is difficult to change. Naming a puppy Sir Merlin and finding out that he acts more like Odie from the comic strip Garfield is a minor mishap, but trying to teach the dog a new name is almost impossible.
