Comrades encouraged from "Left wave"
While marking the anniversary of the Communist Party of Nepal (mother organization of all the communist parties in Nepal), CPN (Maoist) leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai urged all the "comrades" present there for a "greater left alliance" to declare Nepal a republic and introduce a communist rule. Bhattarai was of the opinion that Nepal’s future rested on the task of introducing Marxism, Leninism and Prachanda Path as model of our "loktantra"
Madhab Kumar Nepal, UML general secretary, supported Bhattarai's argument heartily. Other Left leaders also expressed the same opinion.
The Interim Legislature, for the first time in the history, is dominated by the communists, although, they have no fresh mandate. The democratic forces, including the leaders of NC and NC (D) Girija Prasad Koirala and Sher Bahadur Deuba have become the followers of Prachanda Path by solely accepting the Maoist agenda.
Nepalese Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, in the 14th SAARC Summit in New Delhi, had claimed that he had been able to bring the Maoists to the political mainstream. But in response, Prachanda revealed that time would tell whether Koirala brought the Maoists to the mainstream or the Maoists empowered Koirala to be in his present position. Indeed, Prachanda is right in making that claim.
The unification process between the NC and NC (D) has still not been decided. Such a division in NC would obviously benefit the Left forces once more. If Left parties are able to develop a greater alliance, in that situation, none of the democratic forces can challenge the Left force if they contest the election dividedly. But if the Left forces go to the people dividedly, they cannot obtain positive result as expected as well. The real scenario is that the Maoists have attracted the UML grassroots workers, which has greatly reduced UML’s strength. If they participate in the elections, the UML may secure third position. This is due to the lack of visionary policy of the UML.
On the other hand, division in the NC has divided voters as well. If the two NCs go separately to the people, they too will not get positive results.
In this regard, if the greater left alliance will materialize, prior to that, the NC, if interested to keep alive the democratic history in this country, will have to initiate efforts to develop a greater alliance among the democratic forces.
