A SELF-DECLARED, "COMPASSIONATE CAPITALIST", THAT NEEDS THEIR BRAIN EXAMINED
...Hooverville shacks were the 1030's "compassionate" Wall Street results, and they could soon be returning to America
I almost choked when I read a recent comment from a less than aware conservative that referred to the American business system and Wall Street as being a joint, "compassionate capitalistic system".
This individual is either on some serious drugs, ignorant beyond any conceivable help or they have a definite misunderstanding of what´s really going on in this country and how it is very far from being "compassionate".
Let´s look at the American score card to date:
>>> 20 million Americans are unemployed
>>> 40 million have no health care (The US is the only industrialized country that does not have Universal Health Care coverage.)
>>> Poverty in the US is exploding across this country. (One out of five children in the US today are born into a family below the poverty line.)
>>> There are only 4 countries other than the US (such as Zimbabwe) that have a wider disparity between the nation´s poor and their wealthy citizens .
>>> The top 1% in the US population now control 40% of the nation´s wealth. (That phenomena has not occurred in the US since the late 1920´s under the GOP president Herbert Hoover.)
>>> Upward mobility in the US is the worst it´s been in over 100 years. (This means that if someone is born poor in America today, there is a good chance they will grow up remaining poor.)
>>>Thousands of Americans today face foreclosures on their homes.
>>> Many more thousands are in homes that are "under-water". (Homes valued well below what is owed on the mortgage.)
>>> Hundreds of thousands of Americans no longer have a viable 401K savings plan that would allow them to retire in relative comfort at age 65.
>>> It has now been officially documented that the US has lost 42,400 manufacturing factories since 2001
>>> Thirty five years ago, 30%+ of America´s workers were represented by a union. Today that percentage is between 11&14%.
>>> In the 1980´s, there were less than 1,000 registered "Lobbyists" in Washington DC. Today there are over 30,000 and growing.
>>> Today, it is not uncommon for an election of a local US Congressperson to cost each candidate over $1,000,000.
>>> As compared to the past generations, the Republican party today has no desire, or intention, of helping to change the nations´ current economic status-quo.
And according to the New York State Comptroller, while all of this has been occurring, in 2010, Wall Street and the major banks paid out $20.8 "Billion with a B" in cash bonuses to their employees.
This "compassionate" individual is also probably totally confused as to why there are currently "Occupy Wall Street (OWS)" street demonstrations against the status-quo in approximately 1,000 US cities. (And foreign citizens are also now demonstrating in some major international business cities.)
To make things even worse, this "compassionate" individual tried to compare the late entrepreneur, Apple Computer´s Steve Jobs, with Wall Street...? Now that is totally ludicrous and ridiculous.
As one individual noted, "Comparing Steve Jobs with Wall Street is like comparing pines nuts and hand grenades."
People sometimes forget, Wall Street and the banks produce absolutely nothing. They make money by moving money around while Jobs´ Apple Computer produces innovative useful products that people love to buy and use.
While Apple Computer builds popular products, Wall Street and the banks spend their incomes on buying lobbyists, politicians and tax-loop-holes for their corporate clients.
And when all their schemes cause the nation´s economy to implode, it is the 40 hour, working American taxpayers that pull Wall Street and the bank´s "asses out of the fire" using trillions of taxpayer dollars.
For anyone to call the fouled up American business system a "compassionate capitalistic system" should not be allowed to vote, drive a car or reproduce. The help they need goes well beyond anything that I could suggest short of a brain transplant.
Nuff said.
