Country Divided: More Media Hype?
I come into contact with many people daily. I talk with them and they talk to me. We never talk about the great division between us. We usually talk about how lousy the weather is, how lousy the war is, how lousy drug costs are, and how lousy our arrogant politicians are. But, we never talk about a big division between us. Makes you wonder if this great division is a media invention or a political invention.
Speaking anecdotally I think people are actually on the same page. No one wants the war to keep marching endlessly on. No one wants to keep paying outrageous medical bills. No one I’ve talked to believe the Medicare D program is worth a tinker’s hoot. Finally, no one I’ve talked to in my daily journey enjoy the illegal immigration situation. I am assuming that not everyone I talk to is a Democrat. In fact, I’m certain many of them are Republicans because I live in a predominately Republican community.
That being said, what’s up? Is this great divide in our country just the media grandstanding? Of course, media has its polls. We all know how accurate polls are. A poll can tell you what you want to hear if you poll the right people. If you poll ultra conservatives, you’re going to get a conservative slant and visa versa with polling liberal populations.
Maybe citizens should start talking to one another and turn the television off. I am getting tired of all the news coverage. They take a small useless story, Rosie and Donald for example, and turn into something they think America wants to hear. Personally, I couldn’t care less about Rosie or Donald. They’re both losers. They are two grains of sand on the world’s beach. Who really cares? Apparently the media thinks we do, but the media also think we want to see George dancing to the beat of native drums. In my mind the man has made a fool of himself on the world scene enough. Do we have to watch him beating on bongos?
