Bible Knowledge Sets Defendant Free
From the Associated Press:
When Eric Hine appeared in court this morning, his attorney described him as a church-goer, hoping the judge would set a low bond.
Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge John Burlew was skeptical and asked Hine to recite the 23rd Psalm.
He did: all six verses. Some in the courtroom applauded.
Burlew was satisfied and released Hine on a $10,0000 appearance bond, meaning he’ll have to pay that amount if he doesn’t show up for his next court date.”
Hine, arrested for using a stolen credit card, is like a lot of Christians who can recite scripture, but don’t live what they preach.
Instead of letting Hine go free, the judge should have thrown him in the slammer; a man who is so conversant with Holy Scriptures has no excuse for engaging in criminal behavior.
Judge Burlew should put down the Good Book, and read the Constitution, especially the First Amendment.
Everyone, including Christians, who believe in the wall of separation between church and state should be outraged at Judge Burlew for making a mockery of the law.
How would evangelicals feel if a judge set a defendant free because he was able to recite a verse or two from the Satanic Bible?
Burlew is a disgrace to the criminal justice system, he has no business serving as a judge.
