Allow God into your passenger seat
That’s where God wants to be – sitting in the passenger seat. God wants to be your companion; to guide and direct you on the highway of life - in all the decisions you make.
He wants to give you strength for every daily situation. “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31.
If you trust in him, God will give you boldness, freedom from fear. “Fear not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with my righteousness right hand.” Isaiah 41:10.
God doesn’t want to be distant, vague, remote, vengeful. He wants you to trust him, to treat him as you would a faithful friend.
Sure, you can’t see him – he operates in the spiritual realm. He wants you to raise your bar; to go up a notch from human faith into spiritual faith. So what is human faith?
You board a plane and probably cannot see the pilot; yet you believe he is there and qualified to fly the plane. You step into a lift (elevator) and by human faith trust the mechanism to get you from the ground floor to the thirtieth.
Getting spiritual faith is like learning to ride a bike. You won’t ride it until you grasp the handlebars, get both feet on the pedals, and start pedalling.
If you want to learn to swim you must first get into the water and take both feet off the bottom of the pool. You must believe the water will support your body. In the same way you must first believe God will do what he says in the Bible. You must get your feet off the anchor of unbelief; you must trust God. First the believing – then comes the receiving.
The Bible says you come to God through Jesus. He was sent as mediator between God and man. (1 Timothy 2:5) Why? Because sin separates man from God. “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) And, “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) Because Adam disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden we all must die because we have inherited the sin. That is the barrier to heaven and eternal life.
The shed blood of Jesus cleanses you from sin (Ephesians 1:7). As you trust and obey Jesus you have access to heaven and all the aforesaid blessings – and you have the creator of the universe helping you. This writer knows it to be true from personal experience. That is not dead religion.
To put it simply: when you scoff at faith you receive nothing from God. When you trust and believe God - you get the Lord as your personal friend and you partake of his blessings!
