Chicago Equipment and Repair Workers Approve Winning Contract
On September 5, workers at Sargents Equipment and Repair Services, Inc. unanimously voted in favor of their first Teamster contract. The 10 workers, who service and sell heavy equipment at the company's South Chicago Heights plant, recently joined Chicago-based Local 714.
Sargents employees work in scrap yards with other Local 714 members," said Robert A. Hogan, Local 714 Secretary-Treasurer. "The word spread about the union, and they directly called our business representative Danny Dilallo to get organized.”
The new four-year contract includes:
- Participation in the Central States Pension and Health and Welfare Plans;
- A 40-percent reduction in co-payments;
- Legal benefits;
- Vision coverage;
- Wage increases; and
- Seniority provisions.
"They were all very pleased with the agreement," Dilallo said. “The workers’ health and welfare deductibles dropped considerably, and they are now part of the Central States Pension Plan, which increases every year of the contract.”
