And In Other News....

Judy Ramsook
If a disaster, man made or natural is heading out of your direct path, wouldn’t you still want information concerning this matter?

Some people have been complaining that coverage of the now after effects of Katrina and the impending one of Rita hurricanes are receiving too much media attention, so how else are potential victims of catastrophic events supposed to know what is taking place, if they have no way of knowing?

The media is doing what it can so the potential victims of such events can have their lives spared by informing them of what is taking place. The victims need to know certain things, and this is one way of finding out.

For people who are going to be deeply affected by a category 5 hurricane need to know where to go if they have nowhere to go, like a shelter, and what things to take such as birth certificates, drivers’ licenses, and so on.

Because some people, who have never had reason to evacuate their city or town before, might not know that they will need certain items if their home is destroyed by the storm.

And if no one tells the potential victms of the important documents they will need and they do not know, how else will they learn of what to do or take?

So if they happen to catch a glimpse of coverage on one of the news networks, hear about it on the radio, or read something in one of the newspapers or on the internet, then those potential victims of the disaster will have been informed.

Just because some one may have been living in the direct path of a disaster such as category 5 Rita hurricane, does not necessarily mean that he/she may always know what to do. Especially once they enter the panic mode.

For what happens when one panics? His/her thoughts are racing at a fast rate of speed, he/she imagines the worst scenario possible and also tend to forget things. So if members of the media are handing out warnings and informing them of what precautions to take, then it is for a good cause. And at the end of it all, many lives would have been spared.

And when the storm or disaster is over, and things return to normal, the media will be there to give you the news coverage of other goings on in the world.

If the impending disaster were taking place in your immediate area, you would want media coverage too, so you can be informed as well, wouldn’t you?
