Bush Administration Continues Into the Dark Side

As this administration continues into the “Dark Side”, they don’t seem to understand how, what they say in public comes across to the average American. They are now beginning to use terms from the past that are totally against the concept of a democratic society. They then make absurd statements to support their position.

Take for instance, their announcements that they are looking for a “War Czar” and a “Corruption Czar”. President Bush has more than once said that he is not a dictator, but he would like to be one in order to avoid having to deal with the congress. But there are also no “Czars” in an elected democracy. Why would they even want to apply that name from the past to responsible positions that are supposed to help with a specific problem within the administration?

Everyone knows that many key, capable people have already turned down the opportunity for holding the position of “War Czar”. This is obviously a position that would end up taking the majority of the blame for the ill-conceived occupation of Iraq. If a “War Czar” isn’t found soon, the President, Mr. Rumsfeld and now Mr. Gates will have to take responsibility for that long and deadly fiasco.

While on the other hand, according to White House spokesman Scott Stanzel, finding someone to take the position of “Corruption Czar” should not be a major problem. According to Mr. Stanzel, the candidates are “lining up around the block”. Mr. Stanzel also emphasized that; “Corruption under the Bush administration has increased 17,000% since 2001.” Insiders also estimate that at least 47% of the executive branch payroll are currently working full-time on corruption.

Do these people even under stand what they are saying? Stanzel responded to reporters that all is not well regarding corruption, a rare admission of the fallibility of this administration. “We have, what, 30 or 40 separate scandals, with essentially no coordination between them,” Stanzel said. “That’s the kind of situation where people make mistakes.”

For an example, Stanzel referenced the Republican National Committee (RNC) e-mail accounts that were being used for official White House business. “That should never have happened,” Stanzel said. “The press should never have learned about it, and if we had the right systems in place, they wouldn’t have.” Stanzel went on to say; “We’d like to avoid another Carol Lam situation.” (a fired US Attorney) “We’ve got people like Dusty Foggo over here, and we’ve got people in the Department of Justice over there and if you think about it, they’re all working on corruption, but the problem is they’re not working together. That’s the kind of situation we’re trying to avoid.” Stanzel added; “Corruption is just too important for us to have a divided team.“

That’s right! If they were working together, the public would not have found out that they were using the RNC’s e-mail accounts illegally. Oh yes, they must now appoint a “Czar” to make sure that never happens again.

They don’t seem to realize how it looks to make these comments and to state that corruption since Bush came into office has increased “17,000%”.

Now, are you ready for the early speculation of who some possible candidates are for the position of “Corruption Czar”? The buzz is for the former House Rep, Tom DeLay and possibly former lobbyist, Jack Abramoff. But Jack is currently in jail you say. Well, Mr. Stanzel refused to comment when asked if President Bush planned to pardon Abramoff to make him eligible for the job.

I know this all sounds bizarre. Unfortunately, this is for real and a good example as to how far into the abyss this president, and his vice president have taken this administration. They don’t even seem to recognize when they are digging a large hole for themselves. Mr. Stanzel was obviously using the 17,000% as an extreme example, but based on the past Bush track record, many people are beginning to believe that it is not far off base.

Many Americans feel that it’s too bad that there is over a year left in this administration’s term. However, with all the current congressional investigations in process, they may still be able to “throw the bum out” earlier than currently planned. Only time will tell.
